Camping Ideas for late Whitetail in Colville
« on: October 31, 2010, 04:24:04 PM »
So I am heading out next week to the Colville area for the late Whitetail hunt since I struck out during the regular season!  I have been to Colville a few times, but never camped.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a good area to base camp?  Are there lots of campgrounds around the area?  I have been looking online and it seems there are a few, but would like to get some input from some folks that have been there and done that.   I have a 27 foot trailer that I am taking.  I was planning on just setting up in the National Forest, but if anyone has a better idea or area to research it would be much appreciated.

Twin Lakes has a public campground its state or nfs (dont remember which) it's been a few years since me and the kids used it. Didnt have a lot of people at it, you want to take the first road off the highway to it the other is not suitable for RVs. Dry camping only.

I would camp in the NF, lots of areas.  Hopefully you've drove the roads while you were up there.  If you want to drive a little longer I believe marcus island is open year round near kettle falls, pretty close to colville.  Or, you can always drop your trailer at walmart like everyone else.   :chuckle:

What direction are you going to hunt from Colville? Are you going to be in the 105 unit ? Let me know and I'll try and help since I live in Curlew and kinda know that area.

What part of the Colville are you going to?  It's pretty large and in three separate sections.  Only 2 are open for white tail if I remember correctly.

I too am heading up there to hunt and we are staying at Beaver Lodge resort. They do have spots for RVs there but I don't know what they cost. We are staying in a cabin. Dress warm as it gets cold!!

Since it's my first time, I am kind of on a hunting/scouting mission.  In looking at the maps, I am thinking of GMU's 111, 121 and 117 mainly.  Any suggestions?  There is a lot of ground out that way from what I can tell on the maps.  I am not looking for hunting hot spots, just some past experiences that you folks can share.  As far as camping goes, I think I am going to just find a spot in the woods and go from there.
