Anyone else get soaked today?! ;)
« on: October 30, 2010, 07:32:24 PM »
Went for the blackies today....saw three grouse and 4 deer, one of which I think was a two point. I went in for a closer look, but could not confirm (originally saw them about 400 yards...got to bout 100 yards...they either hit the trees or ran off...I was trying to be quiet), so no shot.

Get back to the truck after getting rained on all day, drive down the road...spike about 30 ft off the main road... :chuckle: :bash:

I tell him he is a lucky buck that I am so law abiding...

hit the highway to monroe....a large brached blackie walking along the side of the road... :bash: :chuckle:

Oh well, at least I saw deer.

I did hear quite a few shots...sounds like a good time was had by Sultan today.

from what i've head there has been 3  4 x 4 's taken in that area in the last 3 days.  I've come across two nice gutpiles.  also 2 spikes hit by cars on hwy 2 in sultan in the last 4 days too.

Be come one with Nature......... Then Marinade it.

One moment you're flying south for the winter, then - BANG - gravy.

My day consisted of, getting wet, drying off, getting wet, drying off  :bash:

Saw absolutly nothing all day, and with the all hunters in the area in the AM, it really surprised me that nothing was pushed or shot.

UNtill Morning  :hunter:

We saw 5 deer today in the pouring rain.

I also saw the left main beam of a bull elk. I saw it in the trees when we drove up the road. i backed up and watched it, then it turned and disappeared. never saw the animal, just his antler sticking out from behind a tree.

4 of the deer were does. The last 1 hopped up on a bench behind some firs. I could make her out at 40yrds broadside.
It would have been a thread shot through the trees if I saw horns, I'm good at those. But no horns on her.

The 5th deer was frickin HUGE. At about 200 yrds it looked like it would go 200-250 walkin weight.
We got within 120-150 yrds. All i could see was ears and forehead. It didn't spook, just walked into the trees. It had a yearling doe with it, so I am guessing it was a doe. I couldn't find any horns.

Or it could have been a BT pedophile. :yike: I don't know what the age of consent is for BT :chuckle:, but the little doe was young.

Pouring rain? Where? Man I was only 10 miles from the ocean and it didn't rain on us all day. Well, we had a slight drizzle for a few minutes but not enough to really get wet. Course maybe it helped that we spent most of our time in the truck.   :dunno:

Then I'm glad I wasn't there! I know blacktail hunting is supposed to be good in the rain. But I still don't like getting wet!

I hiked in with my bow for about 5 hours, my gore-tex and underarmor kept me snug as a bug. No other hunter's, just *censored*'s riding motorcycle's in a non-motorized area, as usual :bash:. No animals, but some good sign. Think I will head out a different direction tomorrow and hit the cuts, I was in the timber all day today, no rut activity yet where I was today.

Wasn't too terribly bad up where I was today, only had to change once!  Saw 1 lone doe a long ways off at the bottom of a clear cut eating away without a care in the world.  Saw 2 bobcats playing in the road on the way out, so that was the bonus of the day.
