my daughters first deer!!!
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:57:33 AM »
My daughter drew for the green river youth tag, we haven't hunted real hard the past 4 years since she passed her hunting class so this was her best shot at getting her first deer. Lucky for us my dad also drew a  tag for the water shed, his was a doe tag.  To be able to hunt with my dad, daughter and my wife in a special place was truly a blessing.  Our day started off with seeing one spike elk with 6 cows, and an hour after light my dad spotted two does which he decided to pass on hoping we would shoot a buck first.  We thought it would be possible to shoot a buck and at the same time get the doe that he would likely be with, well that's exactly what happend. It couldn't have been more perfect of a morning.  We went up higher to some older clear cuts about 930 in the morn, just as a turned a corner my dad See's the biggest buck he's ever seen.  We keep driving to get around the corner so the deer couldn't see us, he was bedded down with a doe about 30 yards off the road up a slight hill.  I got my daughter out a walk down the road around the corner and there he was, set her up on the tripod for a good rest and then he stood up just as she was ready.... perfect timing- BOOM!  The buck walk up hill slowly and started wobbling I knew he was done at that point, as he started going down my dad asked "Is that a doe" and then it hit me we had one more deer to shoot.  Yes it was a doe and my dad took her out with one shot, both deer down in less than 30 seconds with one shot each.  I couldn't believe the size of the buck that she got, I've been hunting blacktails since I was 18 and now I'm 41 without shooting a buck close to this size. It was one of the most specials days in my life and I could tell my dad's as well, and with his health getting worse this hunt was truly a blessed event and I did thank God for everything. I am sooo proud of my daughter, she was so calm and made a perfect shot. Saturday was the Perfect day, thanks for reading our adventure.

So nice.  The buck is great, but three generations hunting together and there for the kill ... priceless.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

14 years old and thanks to all the great compliments. You all picked up on the best part of this hunt, the fact that it was a family affair.  I couldn't have asked for a better day, to have everyone there that was there is truly a blessing.  Some day when my dad does pass on, this will be the first thing I think about and hopefully it will still bring a smile to my face.  Thanks dad, I love you!!

Awesome buck!  Having it mounted?  I love the picture of both your daughter and her grandfather in the picture.  You should take that to Walmart and have a coffee mug made for your Dad!  Or even a t-shirt.   I've only had that happen once in my life also, shooting two deer from the same bunch.  In Twisp my son and I were hunting together, he with a youth tag (back then it was any buck).  We had just finished looking for blood on a 2 point he missed and found the spot to sit when a group of deer showed up.  I was going to give him first dibs until I confirmed it had at least 3 points.  I shot and hit the deer in the shoulder and watched him make his final steps into the woods and turned to the other deer.  Another buck and with 3 points also.  Gave the sticks to my son and as the deer stopped right where I had shot mine he hit it and it went down.  If mine had gone right down they probably would have falled within 10 feet of each other.  It was an awesome day.  One was a 3X3 the other a 2X4.  There is alot more to the story but that's it in a nutshell.

We decided to have it mounted, in fact I ended up with a 4x4 on the last day of late buck so now we have 2 deer to mount.  Your hunt with your son sounds like a great memory as well and that is a good idea with what to do with the picture. Thanks.

Until I read the post the first pic I looked at I thought it was a mule deer. Nice buck, I got goosebumps! I can't wait for my daughters to be able to hunt. That is way bigger than any blacktail I've ever seen! I couldn't think of a better person to shoot it! Congrats!
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
