Hi William, you'll find if you introduce yourself and tell us who you are and what you are about, maybe share a story etc. you may get a whole skeleton instead of jsut a bone. :)

just moved here to idaho over the winter and i havent ventured far from the boise valley here but just wandering up into the mountains in unit 39 ive seen quite a few elk but it is a november bow hunt so that probably doesnt help you out much, what i do know is if you want to have opportunities with your bow buy an A tag and rifle try a B tag. If you wanna shot at bulls with bow and rifle try the panhandle units, but try the eastern side of the panhandle closer to montana, from harvest stats it seems like they pull a lot of elk out of those units, some upwards of 100 bulls per year. Also check out Idaho fish and game website there hunt planner is chock full of info.

William I'm fairly new here to this Site as well, welcome aboard!! They're a fairly tight knit bunch here with not a lot of flowing thoughts on things in general, kinda like pulling teeth so take them with a grain of salt! (grin)
I live here in ID, where do you live & what part of ID were you hoping to venture into? Once I know that I will help you out all I can. Nothing like calling & hunting ruttin bulls with a bow, it's something all should experience at least once in their lives! (grin) Great photo there of you & your son!

Welcome, there is good hunting all over the lower panhandle area, the terrain is thick much like you are used to, and you dont see many elk until you have them right in you lap.  Research the harvest statics through the IDFG page, Unit 12 has a pretty good archery harvest rate, Id start there!  Good luck in you Scouting and welcome to the site.

thanks guys, I have been following some leads and have found it to be better of waiting till July for a scout trip.Although I have already started map book, google earth, and Idaho hunt planner I see that some units are o.r.v. restricted. That is where I started good idea or not?Looking south of the Salmon.

Would love to help Bill but not much experience in Idaho, although I did hunt there just over the Idaho/Montana border not far from Darby, was some very good hunting with lots of animals. I hunted with a guide that packed us and our gear in and dropped us off for 10 days. I suppose you could hike in the same area, let me know if you need specific area description or want to hook up with the outfitter for a drop camp, I highly recommend him if thats what your into.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!
