BIGGEST ELK I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!!!
« on: November 01, 2010, 07:56:51 AM »
Sorry i don't have a picture, but i didn't have time to take it.  Writing this is my therapy...  I was up scouting yesterday for the western opener next week and at just about 8 O'Clock i saw a a bull that was 9x9 .  I have been scouting for months now and this is the first visual sign of elk other than tracks in the area.  People have been telling me that the pigs are up here but i was beginning to doubt them and wondering if i had been waisting my time (its my 1st time hunting this area, its all private land that i finally got permission for).  As i am sitting there watching the big daddy, out jumps a 8x7 and a 6x6 followed by about 10 cows.  Oh how i wish it were opening day yesterday! I guess that i am writing this because i am somewhat depressed that i have to wait a week at which point i can only hope that they will still be there!  :'(  I wonder what the odds are that they will be? :dunno:

If it's private land I would assume they might be holding up there to avoid the public land pressure. But we all know what assuming does! If your the only one or one of the few that has access to the land and hunting pressure is high around it, I would bet you will see him again.

i hope that i will see him again! im not going in that area till opening day so if there is a picture it will be of him in the back of my truck! :IBCOOL:  because i'm on private property i'm hoping that with no pressure he will stay in there.  We'll see though.  its amazing how seeing something like that will make you religous.  I pray every night he is still there! LOL

The elk in the Mashel dont stay in hancock they make a big loop up 264th then they head south to 304th then they follow that all the way down to hancock.  We see them about every 8 weeks like clockwork unfortunately they came through 2 days after muzzy season this year.

We must be close to being neighbors Rasbo I have seen them over there during the summer, but never this late in the season just seen about 35 of them on 304th about an hour ago when I went to the feed store.  Just hope they venture down 264th  again in a couple weeks here for late muzzy, have some fantastic footage of a huge bachelor herd in my backyard from last summer.  Would love to see any of them again during season.

I literally almost collided with a smaller herd think about 5 in all crossing the Mt. Hwy a little ways before 304th on Saturday about 5:30am, I was paying more attention to trying to get my truck stopped then counting and looking for any racks. But I can say the cow in the standing in the middle was good size with another one getting ready to cross right after her.
