Northeast corner
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:40:06 AM »
Just seeing if anyone has had any luck in the NE corner. My dad just got back down and saw several nice deer and a nice bear but no elk. Lots of elk sign. One really nice bull taken that came from up high in about 6" of snow. Not saying the Mt.  ;) There was about 12 shots in two days. Overall had a great time, camped at Sullivan lake had a good fire and enjoyed the rain.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I was a little farther south. Didn't see Squat. The squirrels were even scarce.

Me and my dad are up here right now. Like you said lots of sign but no elk. My dad caught the rear ends of some cows slipping away opening day but that's it.

I ran into two herds of Elk on Saturday, but couldn't get a shot at the one spike that was in the group.  I heard one bugle that sounded larger than the Spike, but never got to see him.  I saw nothing on Sunday.

I just got back home from there. No vacation time to spare so only a two day hunt. Saw nothing the first day ran into a herd of about 20 or so sunday . Two 5x5, one spike and the rest cows and calves. They were about 800 yards away when I first saw them with about 15 min. of shooting light left. No way I was going to close in another 500 yards before I lost shooting light so I just sat there and watched them.  :'(
Just one more day

Heard a bull bugle early this morning. Went up and over the nob he bulged from and saw 4 cows up the hill about 150 yards and no bull. Then later in the day had a cow and calf coming crashing down from the thickets and ran right by me 30 feet away. Still no bulls but at least we're seeing and hearing the elk.

On the last day of Modern Whitetail, I spooked some cows out of their beds and followed them to a little clearing. had a 6x7 monster Bull looking right at me 50yards away....sweet! He looked at me for about a minute. My uncles up hunting for him right now, I'm hopin the Bull will stay on the private land we hunt!     Good luck!

This was taken last fall in that area. I had never seen him before and I have not seen him since. I do have a bunch of pics of cows and a spike that I have seen.

Most of the NE corner is "any elk" for modern isn't it?  Why would you let a cow go by?
Expect excellence, but don't require it!

Well I F'd up real bad tonight. After watching one lone cow for about 30 mins. and cow calling her I see a spike step out. I laid down and got a good rest and then boom. He doesn't move, so I jacked in another shell and boom, this time he turns and runs down the hill. Both times he didn't act like he was hit. Me and my dad looked around for about 30 mins. before it got dark but nothing. No blood or anything :bash: :bash: so it looks like I need to figure something out with my gun. Very disappointing!

Just got a call from a couple buddies and they put down two bulls first thing this morning. One is a 5x5 and the other is a 6x5 both north of Spokane.  Figures this would happen once I move to ID and don't hunt WA.  Seems to me the elk hunting is getting better up there or myself and friends finally have them figured out.

I so hope the Elk is getting better in NE WA.  It is getting expensive going to Idaho every year.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.
