Rick Robbins Howler

OK. The rules are simple:
You must be under 21 years of age.
The contest runs from NOW until, April 8,2008 at 7:00pm. For this first attempt "I" am the ruler of the contest. The prize is a Rick Robbins Cow Horn Howler, it is a beauty. It has called Coyotes!! I will pay postage to the winner.
OK, here is the question, answer in 50 words or less.

You are hunting with a person that you have never hunted with before. You are both carrying loaded shotguns for some bird hunting. While walking towards your hunting area you must cross a fence. You are behind the other hunter, when he gets to the fence, he pushes down the wire and stumbling slightly, steps right over the fence.

What would you do and why?

It would be one more call that longtat couldnt have that wasnt broken, LOL.......

Let him know its not safe to carry any loaded firearm over a fence and I would unload, offer my gun to him while I step over and suggest he do the same for next time. Best to unload to avoid an accidental discharge no matter who you hunt with

(1) Gun not loaded (2) hand him my gun (unloaded) (3) hop over fence............Thats what i would do because its the safe way to go..  


                                         OR

i would turn around (in mind i never hunted with him before) and say im not hunting with you because your to unsafe

Seems that there is allot of information to be explained in 50 words !!  maybe that is what they are having a hard time with.

To expand Ill say that not having hunted with this particular fellow, there is no reason to be mad or not hunt with him ever again. There is every reason to improve his safety skills in order for a safer (and hopefully) more successful hunt. If anything I would feel ashamed for not having thought ahead and offered my advise for a precautionary measure. No one is perfect. As we all know there is no other partner that is harder to find then a good hunting partner

ok .... i would not have a loaded gun out of the huntin area and when i saw him slip i would tell him next time give me the gun and than i would hand him my gun and go over fence than get my gun and than once we got to the blind we would load up and have a good safe hunt

HIT THE DECK!!! HE is being wild with a loaded weapon.
First I would explain that when dealign with firearms I take safety very seriously because bullets cannot be taken back and that I am dissapointed in the way he had just handled his firearm. I would also tell him that I would expect the same from him and that if he could not do that then the hunt would end right now and that I would never hunt with him again. Then I would tell him how he should have crossed that fence.
 I would explain to him that when approaching a fence to unload his fiream and to hand it to me and then cross and then i would hand him his gun back . then i would do the safething and unload my gun and hand it to him on the other side of the fence then cross over the fence myself and get my gun back  load back up and continue with happy hunting!!

 All of you gave excellant answers and you all covered the SAFE part of the questions. I congratulate you all and think this says alot about young hunters and how safe they really are. Chris is alot younger than the other guys and I have been keeoing that in mind.
