Talk about misinformation, it is completely, totally illegal to keep road kill in Washington State. There's no gray area, it's in the State Code.

He shot it and tagged it. I would have done the same. Yes, even if I didn't have any orange.
I'm just going by the short story that was posted. I don't know how accurate it is, but it was said that the deer was hit by a car and then "walked up the hill and layed down." So it didn't sound to me like it was still within the county road right of way. If it wasn't hurt bad enough to require being "put down" so what? It's deer season, he had a tag, he killed it with a legal weapon and a legal area (as far as I know) and if it wasn't going to die from being hit by the car, it may have died of old age this winter. It's good a hunter was able to take the buck and it's good that the meat will be used.
Heck, even if it wasn't deer season, it was at night, and it was within the maintained portion of the road, I wouldn't have a problem with it. The right thing to do is to end an animal's suffering ASAP.
Though only a couple people know the real details, I would say that this is a classic case of using common sense. Legal or not, I commend the guy for finishing off a deer and putting his tag on it. I am not promoting illegal hunting activity because the laws are laws; but when they do away with all common sense, screw them and do what your gut tells you. If your conscience is good with it, go for it. If the gamie shows up and tickets you for such an offense, be prepared to pay the fine and still feel good about what you did.
I would agree with you for 1/2 of it. The other half, for those of us who have lost loved ones in car accident's/ hit and runs our first priority would have been to either make sure the victim as OK, or if it was a hit and run, report it so that a drunk doesn't hit and kill a person around the next corner.
