Todays ducks and dog
« on: November 03, 2010, 04:16:34 PM »
I went out for a little hike today to see if I could jump a few ducks. I manage to find a few and then this little guy decided to stand on top of a little dune and stare at me so he got a taste of 3 1/2 BB, pretty much ended his carrer. That load does a # on yotes

Looks like you have better luck with the scattergun over the rifle.   :chuckle:
I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

What load is that and how far?  The only coyote I've killed with a shotgun was shot witn a 1 oz load of 7.5s.  Walked over an eyebrow and shot him in his bed at about 8 feet.

Ducks and dogs... sound like a potholes mixed bag. A dead yote is a good one...
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Nice pics.

Buddy of mine was hunting eloika lake (N of spokane) and had his dec's set out and was sitting in the cattails along the lake calling and a coyote snuck up behind him. He heard something and turned around and the yote took off running and he shot it. Good thing, that was the only thing he killed that day. Terrible duck caller. Yote probably thought a duck was dying on the bank.  :chuckle:

Actually not really.  It must have been just far enough for the shot to spread out a bit because you couldn't really tell the 'yote was hit (other than it dropping like a rock).

We kill a lot of yotes with shotgun in our wintering cattle, they do a great number on them. Nothing better than putting in a super full and grabbing some turkey loads.

Be careful shooting yotes in front of your dog, I shot a coyote in front of a buddy's poodle pointer and he went from an excellent hunting dog to completely gun shy.  :bash:
