This east or west tag selection is BS.

Washington State hunters should be able to hunt the whole state during any elk season, not just half of it.
TANNERITE needed for target practice on opening day of each hunting season.

You are so right. This the only state I have hunted in that you have to claim which part of the state you want to hunt

right.
wrong....

You like crowds, don't you?
Every Tom Dick and Harry would be putting in for Eastside permits and when they don't draw they'll be hunting the west side.

I'll stick to playing the game of chance in order to avoid giant unbearable crowds.
Or you could pay up and get the multi-season tags.

Agreed.  All it would do is create concentrations of hunters and over-crowding issues (not to mention tougher draw odds for eastside tags).

I agree jackalope. I get stuck hunting spikes in ew.  Yeah it sucks. But there aren't a million people. It will pay off when the big bull tag comes my way. I am really surprised they haven't done deer the same way. which would be fine with me too.  But only if they had better late hunts.  Oh well wdfw has some idea of how to manage but not much.

I agree with you guys  about what the crowds would be like but also feel I'm a citizen of this state.... the whole state. Not just half of it. If I pay taxes for the whole state I should be able to hunt the whole state.

You are so right. This the only state I have hunted in that you have to claim which part of the state you want to hunt

So I take it you haven't hunted in Oregon? They have FIVE general season elk tags you have to choose from. Three areas, with two of those areas having "first season" tag, and a "second season" tag.

They have:

Coast First Season
Coast Second Season
Cascade
Rocky Mtn Elk First Season
Rocky Mtn Elk Second Season

This is for rifle hunts. I'm not sure what they have for bow hunting but you get the idea. I remember when Washington only had one elk tag and you could hunt anywhere in the state. But that was when we had a lot less people.

You can hunt the whole state, just not in the same year.   :twocents:

Maybe if enough guys whine about it, it will change, unfortunately draw odds would go into the toilet.

No offense, but based on another thread you started or posted in you might consider hunting elk somewhere other than the Colockum. That seems to me to be kinda like hunting that Vail tree farm then complaining about the crowd. There's a lot of places to hunt deer and elk where there's a lot of animals and not a lot of people.

sounds like you need to find better hunting spots or change your hunting style.  It's not the states fault you haven't harvested an animal.  You have to work harder and smarter.

I have no sympathy for this complaint.  We on the east side have been putting up with the west side ways, with the big city's agenda's due to strength in population, and taking state tax dollars for your big west side projects from the beginning.  One of thousands of examples is.....thanks to the west side grand do gooders the entire state is not allowed to have gun racks in the back window of our 4X4's and yes that applies to you the wheat farmer.  NO SYMPATHY.  I move we start a grass roots effort to have the Idaho stateline moved west to Ellensburg.

What does any of your post have to do with what side of the state you go elk hunting on?

I don't have any sympathy either. I just get in my truck and drive to your side of the state to hunt.

Grundy,
I agree and will be the first to admit there are many exceptions like you that understand and are good folks.

Not that if you disagree you are bad it is just not a advantageous view point for the east side due to the agriculture and different culture charateristics that the Cascade mountain range influences.

It is a majority issue as I think we can both agree on.

I may be mistaken on the gun rack example although for some reason I have been under that impression for some time now.  In any event my point and opinion still stand.

We on the westside have the same problem. Hunters from the eastside coming over here to hunt OUR bull elk. They give this lame excuse that they are getting tired of hunting spikes.

I see gun racks in the windows of pickup trucks all the time, even here on the "liberal" side of the state. I was even looking at several different models of gun racks for truck windows at the sporting goods store today, in western WA.
