Doty Hills, requesting PM info
«
on:
November 03, 2010, 10:19:30 AM »
My son and I are looking at Doty Hills for his rifle season elk. I've been there just a small bit. I've heard elk and called elk in close, but that was in Sept. Never been there later than that. Any info would be great. PM me if you have any help. I see lots of clearcuts on the west side of the hills, good place to go?
Thanks guys.

Muzzle loaded the late Deer there allot. They might be there for the Rut but were non exsistant late. We had tags just in case but seemed like a Ghost town in November for Elk.

Doty does not have a ton of elk. I would head towards willapa hills.

I'd say the Satsop unit is as good as around Doty, and that's closer to home for you. The Doty area is open year-round to access and I think there is some poaching going on or maybe just the constant activity keeps the elk very nocturnal/far from roads in general.
I've hunted Williams Creek since I was 14 years old and can say there has been a steady increase in pressure since I started. I'm actually not even hunting elk this year, opting to spend some of my time I can miss from class over here at the University of Idaho to hunt extended buck. There are elk around, but they are no secret and you won't be the only guy after them. I liken it to a scaled down version of Winston Creek anymore. Fewer elk and fewer hunters, but similar in terms of the ratio of one to another.
