Late Archery, Swakane or Manson?
« on: November 04, 2010, 12:32:47 PM »
Any opinions on which is a better quality hunt after thanksgiving? I want one more good hunt in the mountains before I PCS to Oklahoma in the spring. Thanks

Iknow the swakane roads can get real nasty , if you glass a ton you'll find some nice bucks in there.

Manson herd has never recovered from the winter of 97. I own property in the Manson unit and almost always end up hunting the Swakane because of more and better bucks although the crowds of bowhunters in the Swakane are ridiculous!  :twocents:

id go up swakane as well, just as bows4huntn said the manson heard is still on a very slow rebound from the snowmagedon of 97.  brings chains for the roads and patience for the mass of people that will be in there

The bucks are moving, my buddy just called me today and told me his brother wacth a pretty good buck on the hillside  behind ohme gardens and it wasnt there during the season, maybe local buck but I doubt it. I have also heard reports of some good deer movement around baldy and stormy mt.

Good luck to all, it will be a good hunt like normal

If you want to hunt the swakane late bow hunt it's just like hunting modern rifle season lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of hunters.

Tons of bowhunters, and nasty roads. Definitely bring chains, or a winch to pull you out of the ravine after you slide off the road.

:yeah:  I think it's actually worse than general rifle.

Yeah, I would NOT step foot in the Swakane unit, NASTY, NASTY and the deer are not going to migrate there this winter because of the fire. Definately a  :bdid:

Manson it is, i hate crowds. Looks like snow and cold weather. I hope that gets them headed down the hill. Good luck to all!

You been up there lately?  Lots of good growth and browse has already come back.  The hills look like winter wheat fields where the burn hit.

Wow lots of bucks in the swakane right now, its crazy how many deer you can see when you pull out a spotter and pick holes apart.  The burn is holding some good bucks as we speak. :)
