Gentlemen,

Can we please move this discussion back over to the "good day 4 the tribe" thread.  It's a little bit of an inconvenience for me to have to go back and forth between the two. :)

There are a couple of Yakimas that i'ds smoke the pipe and drink the fire water with.... But they think  closer to what i do ....  You only need an elk, deer and pig to make it through the winter and some spuds. :twocents: No need to slaughter the whole herd.... Better to brush up on the horsemanship  and bow shooting skills, and or enjoy the huckleberry fields of Mt Adams.  :twocents: When an Indian from the Rez says its better to go into the woods to get away from the stench of the valley something must be wrong.... Even if i'm just a bitter white guy.  :twocents:

If its not too bold i will speak my mind... It would seem that the Yakima tribe is the Strongest and most independent tribe in the state.... It may be because of its influence or its size... I wish US citizens had the Zest for freedom that the tribes currently enjoy... There will reach a point when The brotherhood of hunters White or Native will need each other. I fear that day is not far off. I enjoy putting my thumb in the eye of "The Man" every chance i get.... I know that tribal quarrels with the "white man" about hunting will be insignificant in the future.... The WDFW has sold many "white" hunters out, and despite the jousting you have experienced at this site we all are your brothers. I hope that the Colokum makes a great comeback... Even tho i've never hunted the heard. I would say that it either needs to die or we need a pact... We are at a Mexican stand off.....  The WDFW doesn't have the balls to close hunting or go permit only, and some tribesmen feel the need to make a point... I have not heard your opinion on the health of the herd? what do you say? Are we engaged in mutual destruction? If the Colokum falls and the white man moves on traditional hers of the yakimas does that help us all?

i have seen great numbers of bulls. there are more bulls this year than last. when i say bulls i mean 4x4 and up.  i was up there a week straight and counted 32 bull in one day. that was in the same area. i moved locattion the next day. i counted 27 in a location were the bulls i seen the previous day couldn't have moved to in one night. this continued thru out the week. i counted a total of 97 bulls that week. a lot of nice 6 x 6 bulls this year. i covered alot of ground and spend alot of time in the colokum this year. more than i have in previous years. the herd has gotten smaller but the quality has gotten better in this years. i  wish the other natives wouldn't take as many bulls as they do. i wish they wouldnt shoot small tiny bulls. at lest not three  at a time. we do need to give the elk heard a break. i have seen alot of calves this year. alot of twins. more then i have seen i 5 years. i hope next year the heard will be stronger. If the winter isnt to bad on them. i want to better the heard. that is why i have changed the way i hunt. i have shot two bulls this year and two spikes. i encourage other natives to cut back on killing. but its up to them. i can only plant a seed and hope it grows. you know what i mean.

Colockum,

Great article. I had read it before, but it was great to re-read it. Puts the !! on alot of your points and insight into whats causing the decline of the herd. Hopefully this thread can steer clear of the Indian impact...lots of that going on next door ;).

He isn't "Creepy" he is on here as a Representative of the Yakima tribe. A true wise man and a scholar. I cant hardly see why their way of life was steam rolled.....Instead of living off the land and being one with the animals, they would rather rape the land, slaughter the animals, and free load off the people that conquered them.......

Are you serious?  You have to be joking right? If you truly cared about the herd instead of killing four bulls in one year you'd kill one trophy bull to hang on your wall and three cows.  So how exactly in your mind is killing four bulls this year "bettering the herd?"  You have completely contradicted yourself.  BTW if you "cut back" to four bulls this year how many bulls did you kill in previous years?  Yeah you really care about that herd all right. Read this post and see how you sound.  And try to think about how ridicoulous your post is.

BTW other members I know have said how many more Yakamas there are up there than in previous years.
