Waiting for more northern to show.  The limit of ducks I like to shoot doesn't score very well.  Mallards, I will wait until there are plenty to choose from and I can pick my birds.
that's just not even fair...  :chuckle:  :chuckle:

h20fowler, seriously, wouldn't mind hunting with you! never even seen a wood duck, nonetheless shoot a pair in one outing! good on you mate, do you limit ever time you go out?

Good to see this year treating you well as always. I wish I could say I was as dedicated as you to waterfowling, but I can't. The three times i've gone out have been successful though. I have scheduled the rest of my time off for the year on Wednesdays to hopefully have less competition at some public land

If people have read your posts, they'll understand that you hunt whenever you have a chance, even if it's in the morning before you have to work, etc. You've obviously scouted and networked in your area to find where the birds want to be and gotten access to those places. Do you still have a lease this year?

The year has been great so far, not as good as yours though! The whole work before play thing is really putting a damper on my style. But the weather has been good and the birds have been decoying well. 2010 total: 56 ducks and 18 geese. Heres a pic from last weekend, I love those little cacks!

the actual duck hunting has been limited so far, just PITA time restraints between deer hunting (LOL), going back to school, etc. But otherwise thigns are going good. picked up a lot of new toys, new marsh rat, new layout blind, new decoys, and have leads on a couple good private land parcels I may be working. Also got the perm blind built up at my old private so things are coming together, albeit slowly.

I have it made into summer sausage, peperoni, jerky and breakfast sausages typically.  The big northern mallards I shoot I typically will pluck and we cook it in a bag or like a chicken on a beer can in the oven.  It turns out good.  Last night we cut 8 breasts up in chunks and let it soak in a marinade then threw it into the crock pot with various vegies.  Let it slow cook all day.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
