Wife's 1st deer
«
on:
November 07, 2010, 07:25:09 AM »
Took my wife up Sat morning, for her 2nd deer hunt ever. She has a migratory muley tag, so we knew getting a deer would be easy, but trying to find one that was decent enough would be difficult, especially since our schedules are so busy with two little kids, work, school, etc... We would hunt Sat and Sun, then come back the 14th, and hunt till we get one...
Well I could tell Sat morning she wasn't too into it, getting up early, stomach bothering her, so we drove a bunch, glassed a bunch. Saw plenty of 3 pointers, some 3x3's with eyeguards, at 20 yds!!! I didn't want her to take something like that, but figured if we find a 23" or so, we might take one. Well had lunch about noon, decided to hit some of the timber, came around the corner and this buck popped out at 40 yds, all puffed up. He had a doe with him as well. It was uphill from the road too, a PLUS!!! So wife decides she wants it, so we pop over the bank, steady the bipod, by then the deer trots back another 50 yds. I didn't think the wife was going to shoot, but she did, one perfect "texas heart" shot.... I was just getting ready to say, wait one second, it'll turn, but she already had the deer down! We lost sight of it, so waited a couple minutes, then started up the hill to it, and it popped up so she fired 2 more, down for the count. Kudo's for the wife, she can place a shot like no other! She also placed the scope on her forehead as well, like her moose hunt last year, another kiss from the scope! So with this deer, I'm done for this season. Anyone need a guide? I'm hurting for some woods time, and have 9 days vacation to burn!!!

Congrats to her on her first deer. What area was the tag for? Might have to take you up on your offer.

That is one heck of a buck for her first.
I just got done splitting and turning a Mule Deer Capethat went 27" two inches behind the ears.. Biggest one I have ever had in the shop. I think your wifes is roughly the same size. That thing is a pig.

I just threw a tape to it, got 25 1/2" on it without trying too hard.
I would have guessed 22 or 23.... I was shocked!
