youth shotgun

i am planning to buy my ten year old boy a shotgun for christmas and wondering what you guys would recommend. the gun would be used mainly for duck and turkey hunting. im not real picky on brand, just want something he can hunt with and then hand down to his younger brother in a few years. thanks.

I bought my son a Mossberg Bantam 500 pump. He loved it. He finally went to a 12 gauge at age 16 and 6'1". When he out grew the youth stock I bought him the adult stock from Mossberg. It worked out just fine. He would just swap out the fiber optic sights for turkey and use the bead sights for duck and pheasant. If you're near Issaquah I can meet you at the range and you're son can try the gun out. Brian

Hey Ridgefire,  

Any lightweight 20 ga pump with screw in chokes and 3 in. mag should do the ticket.  As you know I favor the Benelli Nova pump, preferably in camo for ducks and turkeys.

Can't go wrong with the Remington 870 20 guage youth model. Got it when I was eleven and still have it 20 years later, tho I only use it for quail and grouse now.

   Great gun. I got mine when i was 9 and killed my first duck and goose with it. It still rides around in the truck for unlucky grouse.

I bought my daughters a youth 870.

My  buy a 870 full size and put a youth stock on it; that way when he gets bigger swap stocks. And get him a 12GA and 2 3/4 shells for the first few years and then dad better be paying for the big stuff.

I would have to agree with the Remington 870 youth. great way to start off!
