I agree with bucklucky.  Lots of people but lots of elk.  Me and a few buddies had a patch of timber that we would get into them in everyday all day long.  That is until they logged it.

That must be the 540 line timber i hunted that too...until they logged it.

If your biking in you should like some of the heavy crush rock they threw down.   :bash:

 :yeah:

I biked through there during the rifle season and it was nice and packed; the day after it ended, they dozed it up and exposed all of that sharp stone and it was like riding through a glass beach.  Man, was I pissed.  Funny as this $hit only seems to happen to me :chuckle:

I hunted in Winston last year for late archery elk... seemed like the muzzys cleaned up pretty good.

If you're going to the Winston for late season make sure you stay on the roads. That way you won't get lost because some one will be right along to help. Most of the elk are seen from the roads anyways. Everyone knows it's more fun to hunt elk from a truck!  You can stay warm and dry while you hunt. How can it be any better?  Just jump out when you and everyone else sees them cross the road, chase them into the next drainage, get back in the truck, repeat!

Last year during late archery it was a zoo Thanksgiving weekend, after that, it wasn't any worse then anywhere else that I hunt late season. I'll be there again for a couple days during late archery and hope to find alot of locked gates, oh yeah, and elk.  :chuckle:

I went up to Winston for 1 day late archery last year and behind the gate I go into I only ran into 4 hunters. I got within 60 yards of 2 nice bulls. a 5x5 and a 5x0. Unfortunately it was cow only and I didn't see any cows that day. My understanding from my brother who is hunting modern there now is they are opening more gates this year. They opened the gate we hunt behind for the weekend and had a volunteer there to let hunters know it was closed during the week. Good luck there's lot's of animals back there. As has been said on a few other threads get into the timber.
