I have killed a lot of game with a 30-06. It is still very popular. Lots of new magnums that will get you a few more feet per second and an inch or two in trajectory, but the old '06 still holds it's own. The last few years I have been using a .270 win, but i am sure I will get the '06 out again someday.

Looks like the 721 has a fan base. Mine was plain-jane but killed several deer.
Cool photos Burr

Yeah, I really like my A Bolt, that is why the WBY 30-06 has not been hunting in a few years. Plus, I don't want to scratch up the walnut stock on the ATV gun rack. I like to have clean wood, no scratches.

Model 721, it was my dad's.  Used it from South Dakota to Arizona to Alaska and many places in between.   Don't need anything else!

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Technically, I have 4, (two Garands, a 1903, and a 1903-A3), but I do want a sporting 06.  It's a damn good cartridge, and very versatile.  There's probably been more game taken with that cartridge than any other.  As I see it, there is only one problem with the 06, it's just not "sexy".
Nothing witty here.... move along.

Whats sexier than feeling the recoil and seeing the elk drop to the ground???

Sure like my Tikka T3 Lite in .30-06.  There is a ton of good factory loads these days from 100 grain varmit loads, 150 or 165 grain Deer/Antelope loads and up to 180 grain Elk/Moose loads.   The .30-06 should be strong choice for another 100 years!
