Whiskey Dick??
« on: November 09, 2010, 10:16:03 AM »
hi all, kind of new here.  i'm thinking of taking my 7 mo old lab out to whiskey dick release area this weekend.  any reports?  only reason i'm asking is she hasn't been shot over much, and i want to make sure that there are a few birds around.  if it's going to be packed with people, i'd be inclined to go elsewhere too.  she's chased quite a few birds at "hunting camp" a couple weeks ago, but i want to get her out in the field.

thanks,
willy

I haven't hunted a release site, but from what I have heard I wouldn't take a 7mo fresh pup out to one.  Spend the time and gas and head east.

BTW, ru on IH8MUD?

thanks for the info.  i think the east side release areas are a bit less crazy than the ones here, whiskey dick is near ellensburg.  i agree, it might not be the best idea, and i probably won't.  i am (was?) on IH8Mud, 'til i abandoned my last TLC.  sad, i know.  think i've seen you on PP?  you a cruiser head?

Yeah the dry side sites are supposed to be a little better.

Still have my LC and am thinking about a 100.  It's a family and client "car" so why not have the comfort...  I just turned 191K runs like new, doesn't burn a drop of 5-20 synth.  just amazing.  what did you replace it with?

I going to try and get out to cooke canyon soon.  I'll let you know when I head out if i have much notice maybe we can meet and split the birds.  I have a 2yo chocolate lab (family dog, not hard core) with a great nose.

yea on the PP also.

If your young dog has not been shot over much the last place I would take her would be a release site with many other hunters. I would spend at least one year with many hunts under the belt before exposing her to many other hunters shooting. Have seen at least a few bird dogs ruined by introducing them to multiple shooters too soon. :twocents:
