For the record, I didn't send any e-mails. Second, not tired of my job Mountain, just hate to see a buck or bull with a price tag comparable to a sexual assault.. Points or no Points..

I'm glad to hear that 257 (about the e-mails)  I wish sportsman as a whole could have pulled together and get crap done without having to resort to the stupid points for poaching thing.  Its getting to a point that you might as well spend one whole season out looking for poachers just so you have a possibility to get drawn.   I honestly have turned in several folks for suspected behavior, and or gave evidence to it.  I never asked for points or looked to get any.  I'm sure if they came to me offering to me I'd take them though.  I want that sheep tag as bad as everyone else.

Thanks Doug, looks like you are getting my point. Mountain, I don't poach either, don't care for it either, every animal poached is one my son, you, Doug, or myself doesn't have a chance at. I reckon its kinda like money, greed does bad things to people.. Report somebody because its the right thing to do, not personal gain.... Do ya get it now? Later

May just happen Mountain.....I figure my knees have 10 more years on them than yours does.  I'm not sure how many years they have left.  I need to get this goat and sheep thing done pretty soon.   I'll take it sky.

I think we jacked Coons thread.  We'll have to take it up elsewhere, but I think its totally doable if you are a good hunter.  I think we have a thread on here talking about it.  I started it about 3 weeks ago....asking if anyone was doing it this year.  unlimited sheep units or something like that.   I was concerned that the quotas were filled early on, but some really are not.  I guess I'd have to hook up with someone with a satellite phone because the style I like to hunt I'd be a long ways from a phone to call in every 24 hours.

Does anyone think about what happens when you turn a "poacher " in that may not be poaching?
I know from my buddies first hand experiance. He was hunting a depredation permit for a forester a few years ago and got turned in  for poaching. Guess what happened to him even though he had all the proper documentation and was huntig within his boundries. The game wardens surrounded the private property they were hunting, gave him and the other houndsmen a rippen , went through there trucks, were treated like criminals. Gee, you would have thought they murdered someone. Wrote citations for a bunch of things including tresspassing which all got dropped cause it wasnt true. Except for one item that wasnt even my buddies screw up. They had 2 permits for the same land owner that they were running at the same time. The game department had screwed up the quardinants and swithed them by accident. So by the property description they were hunting thhe right peice of land but the quardinants were for the other peice. Neadless to say everything eventually got dropped . There is a bunch more to the storry but thats just a quick run down.It cost my buddy alot of money alot of lost wages to go to court for doing nothing wrong, and for what, some one THOUGHT he was poaching?

If I turn someone in for poaching I guarantee I WILL have first hand PROOF.

I hate poaching, I have had elk killed im my back yard in july. Just random kills and they didnt even cut the horns off. You think that wouldnt piss a guy off! We had watched them elk all the time and video them. I wish I had proof. The game department didnt even come out to investigate.

I'm just saying make sure  you are not turning in an innocent person because the game dept. will make there life a living hell.

My buddie gave up hounds after that. And I slowed down on my hunting cause I cant afford to have something like that happen to me.

Good for you if you had the proof and they were really poaching.

Thats all I have to say.

Bucklucky, I disagree.  It shouldn't be up to the guy reporting suspected poachers to make sure they are really poaching.  It has to be left up to the DFW........even if they are inept at times.  It's unfortunate what happened to your buddy.

You couldn't expect somebody to go up to a guy hunting and ask him a bunch of quetions before reporting him.  The guy could just lie to you or tell you F-off and mind your own business.

A few years ago I talked to a houndsman that was running bears for a private timber company next to Capitol Forest and he was a real nice guy and showed me his permit and all, but I wouldn't expect all hound guys to do that.

At the time I wasn't aware that it was legal to hunt with hounds, but the guy wasn't suspicious or anything so I figured he was legit.  But if I wasn't able to talk to him, and I suspected he was hunting illegally wouldn't it be my responsibility to give WDFW a call?  And if I was able to talk to someone at WDFW, they should be able to say "Where are you?.....Oh, well there is a permit in that area for a depredation bear hunt with hounds.  Thank you for the call."  Or, if there were no permits in the area, then they could send a warden out to check it out.

That is what I would expect to happen if someone reported activity like that.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

It just goes to show that you are "guilty until you prove yourself innocent" not what people think that you are "innocent until proven guilty." They will treat you like a criminal everytime.
