Im pretty confused how anyone is bitching on this post and/or in PM's to you brother! You saw something that looked very suspect. You called the game warden and he came out to investigate and guess what, you were right!

The end!

All this crap about maybe he is a damage control...or blah blah blah....   BULLSH_T!   and pointless!

If you are hunting, you are legally required to have license and permit with you. Whether thats September elk or some bear damage hound work...

if ya dont have it in your possession, your WRONG. If ya do have your documentation, then me calling the game warden to come check your documentation isn't wrong of me if I suspect wrongdoing.

Trust me 257, I see ya poaching Ill call the game warden...  I cant even use 10 points :bash:

As far as being harassed by game wardens, get over it. Ive been searched so damn many times its not even funny! I have spent the majority of the last decade hunting military bases where you can EXPECT to get searched every 3rd time you leave the woods... if ya dont have anything to hide then get over it. Do I like it? No!

So, have your damn documentation and follow the law!  if ya dont Im gonna "Stool pigeon" on you :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

A little off the topic but I used to work as a Military Police Investigator.  Got a call from the game wardens they were going to a house on Fairchild AFB about an elk hanging in the garage in Aug.  The guy was not home, but these two wardens pretty well grilled the wife, who was at home, over the coals.  She was adament her husband had a tag.  They were all set to confiscate the elk and track down hubby and arrest him for poaching.  They double checked the regs and found nothing about muzzleloading for elk in WA in Aug....I happened to point out to them they were looking in last year's regs.  Oops in the current regs there was a Aug muzzleloading hunt near Ellensburg. Hehehe their bad.

I had a run in with the warden here back in 2002.  I was in the wrong, I'll state that up front.  I had four baby coons, shouldn't have had them.  Had a hair brain idea I would try and re-populate a area I hunted my dogs in that is away from everyone and hardly no roads.  Dumb idea.  $2000 fine and two years probation for keeping wildlife in captivity.  I was originally cited by the warden for taking Endangered Wildlife.  Spoke to the prosecutor and informed him coons were not Endangered, first he said it didn't matter....excuse me, it does matter!!  Then they amended it to taking Protected Wildlife.  That's wrong as well.  Finally when I showed up in court it was the correct charge of keeping wildlife in captivity.  However the prosecutor was hell bent on hooking me up hard, even though it was obvious the little guys had been treated very well and taken good care of and I never had so much as a speeding violation in my 40 years, at the time, life.  I was perplexed to say the least.  Then I obtained a copy of the warden's report.  Probably 3/4 of it was fabricated and outright lies.  I was shocked enough to write a letter to the HQ in Olympia and they sent a Sgt out to my house.  I got lip service, but I figure that was as good as I was going to get and had a chance to say my piece.  Bottom line I was wrong and had put myself in that posiiton, but if you think the wardens do not embellish their reports your wrong, I have seen it first hand.

I also have to disagree Bucklucky.  It's not your job to ensure that they are 100% guilty of what they are doing.  You need only have a suspicion of criminal activity.  Once the law steps in it's on them to do a proper investigation and determine if a crime is being committed.  There was way more happening in your buddies situation than you may be aware of.  First of all, they can't go through their trucks unless they give them permission or they are arrested.  If they were arrested, then the officer must have proof that a crime was committed.  If they don't, then the arrest will be invalid and the case will be dismissed.  You seem to indicate that is what happened, but I have my doubts.  My best guess would be that there was something they were doing wrong even if minor and not related to poaching.  Once they are arrested the officers can do a search of the vehicles.  If they weren't in the vehicles at the time of arrest then they can't search them incident to arrest.

If you are driving down the road and spot someone all over the road and you suspect a DUI do you wait and follow them home, approach them and see if they are really drunk, or ask them to admit if they were drinking alcohol...then call the cops when you are 100% sure?

If a girl runs out of a house and claims she has been raped do you talk to her and the guy and determine which one is credible and collect evidence so you are 100% sure when you call the cops?

And 257, would you have rather Coon not turned in the poacher because he wants the points?  Would you rather we have a poacher who got away with it because someone cared more about points?  I don't get the feeling Coon was that interested in the points.  I took the tone of his post to be rather sarcastic and light hearted.  You worry about why you'll turn someone in and let other people worry about their own interests.

"The state Department of Fish and Wildlife issues about 100 permits a year that allow private landowners who document significant bear damage to hire hound hunters. The permits are good for two weeks, and renewable, said Fish and Wildlife's Sean Carrell. "

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife issues about 100 permits a year that allow private landowners who document significant bear damage to hire hound hunters. The permits are good for two weeks, and renewable, said Fish and Wildlife's Sean Carrell.

It is a bit more then 100, but yes, they are good for two weeks and two bears. Renewable upon proof of continuing damage for another two/two.
They don't show the results in the harvest reports anymore, but they did up until 2004.
In 2004 they killed 187 bears on spring damage hunts in Western WA.
In 2003 they killed 138 bears on spring damage hunts in Western WA.

Please don't be afraid to turn in poachers. Thanks for doing your civic duty. It should be up to the law to weed it out from there. Having said that I usually assume the best and only would act on something if I was mostly or darn certain it was illegal. I am not going to try to monday morning quarterback this situation from the internet and I will just say that. That language should not be taken as offensive to other people in the conversation here because that is not the point.

I am with 257. Besides you read it he is jealous. He probably is mad because he couldn't catch it himself. A real houndsmen wouldn't turn another in even if he hated him, so your not a true houndsmen. Is that the Full Cry picture were the dog is running backwards on the track. Is that yours, no wonder you couldn't catch the bear your dogs run backward on tracks.
Why would you post that and not expect people to send you hatemail. You think that's bad wait till the guy that got busted catches up with you. Bragging about telling on someone that's what little kids do, how old are you, not a grown man like you say.
Yes I think 257 is right JEALOUSY, a real houndsmen would have

i am not sure what was meant by saying that he is not a true houndsman. If i could be enlightened i am all ears. I dont feel like coon did this for the points. He was not bragging about it, he seemed like he was happy that he did get a reward for doing a service for the game department. I dont think that people should get rewarded for this, I think it should just be done to catch people who are killing game without reason. Which it sounds like this was the case. Coon you are not a chicken*censored* you were doing what you thought was right. Just my :twocents:

I love how you guys are so damn chicken *censored* to speak your mind that you have to create a new profile to speak your mind.

Ive spent over a decade chasing coons, bears, deer, and pigs with dogs.... some hounds I owned and were friends hounds...do I consider myself a dog hunter?

yes,

I can tell ya, the houndsmen I know are some of the most strict followers of game laws. Dont confuse your efforts to support your claim to being a skilled houndsman because you live by a code of poaching. Next thing ya know your gonna be telling me that your a better hunter than me because of all the great big bulls you shot in July at midnight at a feeding station...your right, I sure cant compare to those "hunting skills"

So you've killed more bears than Coon? well thats easy when ya kill 10 per year well prior to season! :bash:

take that *censored* elsewhere because your making those of us that follow the rules look bad!

PS- anyone that wants to come looking for my buddy coon for turning in poachers????  heres a hint, he is staying with me these days and trust me, pm me for the address!

WE"LL LEAVE THE LIGHT ON FOR YA! ;)

I agree.. where are the houndsmen here that were so defending "their" sport? These are the types of guys that give all hound hunters and hunters in general a black eye. What do you guys think of this attitude?
