Anyone hunt there. Quail? Worth taking a dog up there?

I was there about a month ago with my son.  We crossed the foot bridge.  Lots of people on the river and in the parking lot.  We ended up crossing the bridge but didn't go up the trail   We did try someplace else close by and my son got a partridge.

Went up the trail about 3 miles two weeks ago, nothing flew. The weather was sketchy, so I would imagine that kept the birds in tight...If they were there.

I go up there a few times a year. There are some birds, not a lot, up in there and chukar on top.

Nice place to hike now that the temps are low and no snakes

I don't think you are dealing with a tough crowd, it's probably because your question is very broad. Quail live all over the Yaki Valley, find cover, food and water and most likely, you will find quail. It takes some time in the field to narrow down the spots, but that area has some of the best quail habitat in the state, it shouldn't be hard to do, even if you are starting cold.

Look for public land with the above criteria and pound it...you will find birds.

If you park at the  umptanum foot bridge be cautious about your vehicles. Alot of cars broken into in there.  :twocents:
