407 and 410 GMUs question
« on: November 10, 2010, 05:11:19 PM »
So long story short I no longer have a job and no unemployment.  I have a archery deer tag to fill, and I'd prefer to stay close by home just to save gas money.  Between looking for jobs and all that stuff, I figure I'd have some free time to get some meat since 407 and 410 are "any deer".

I've explored all around trying to find legal access to public land but haven't found any yet.  Went along the Y road looking for a way into the woods, also Park Rd and along highway 9 south of Acme.  I know there is public land up there... just see nothing but NO TRESPASSING signs.  Tried over by Sumas Mt but roads ended up being people's driveways.  No land owners I've talked to yet have gave me permission to hunt their land but I'm still tryin.  I know it's a long shot but does anyone have any info on public land access in these GMU's?

Or should I just bag it and just pick one weekend and head to a more productive GMU further away in hopes of better luck.  Any  :twocents: would be appreciated

Hi Tip, There is an area in Acme called the dike. Take the Mosquito lake rd off highway 9-- just up the hill on the left you will see the access. Drive in about 1 mile and work your way down the west side of the road. Theres deer in there. The closer you get to the bottom the better as the ag land is down there. Good luck. That the only public land I know of in 407

You can't miss it a huge DNR sign say Van Zant Dike, gets a lot of traffic(active logging, etc...). It doesn't have to be public forest to hunt. A lot of the timber companies allow access minus your car and it's day use only no over night use. Get yourself a map. The road to Sumas Mt can be misleading it actually looks like some ones driveway but it takes you up there.
