GMU 101 Rut Report
« on: November 11, 2010, 09:09:29 PM »
Just returned from GMU 101. The bucks in my area have been rubbing and scraping heavily for the past two weeks. Up until 7 Nov. they only passed the cameras at night. Starting 7 Nov. the daylight movement has picked up daily. This evening I had a 2 1/2 year old and 1 1/2 year old buck come in at the same time as some does. There was a little posturing from the bucks and they scent checked the does but found them wanting.

They'll be done by the time I get there.  Oh well, I usually hunt after the rut anyway.

I'm sitting in my blind on Sherman as we speak.  Don't ask me how I have cell service up here when I don't have it in kettle falls.  Wish I had realized this morning, would have made the five hour sit without seeing anything go by quicker.  I've got scrapes and rubs all over the place but haven't  seen a buck/heard a grunt etc.  Does aren't even doing anything pretty dead.  Wondering if with this mild weather down low they are nocturnal.  I've seen 3 Mulie bucks and they r rutting hard.

On saturday I had a 135 class 5x5 and spike cruising for does. My hunting buddy had a spike come in after some does and left in the direction they departed grunting the entire way. Beyond that not much rut action observed.

I got back last night and Sherman was a ghost town.  Mulies were moving but whiteys weren't doing anything.  I saw lots of sign but nothing doing.  Talked to two guys that were hunting the same area down low as me and they said the same thing.  Also know 7 or 8 people hunting the ione area that haven't seen much deer activity at all and no bucks.

I have a friend hunting in Ione also. He also hasn't witnessed any rut activity. He had this buck appear during daylight twice. Once on 7 Nov and once today at 1207...he made it to his blind at 1233.

D'OH!  As Homer S. would say.  I think I would have slept in that blind tonight and sat there all day tomorrow!

That's a bruiser.  My grandpa ran into a warden in the hills.  Warden told him they tagged 4 pups and a momma wolf right out of ione this summer.   Bad news
