Looking for a new Springer
« on: November 12, 2010, 05:38:12 PM »
So many Breeders. I did recieve a couple IM's the other day and they both had good info. I would like to know if any has recieved a pup or heard of NW Springers out of Port Orchard. Seems like a good breeder. Any input?

Just wondering- what's the difference?  Field vs Bench?

I believe that field bred are from more of a hunting pedigree and bench is more show pedigree

Bench are bigger boned and heavier with longer hair. Some hunt but if you want a hunting Springer, go with field bred. They are smaller with shorter hair (easier to clean after the hunt) and in my opinion are more athletic. Mine lives to hunt. Even when we are just out exercising in the field. Very smart dog as well. Never had a dog learn commands after only a few reps. Just crazy!!

I had a bench pure bred. 90 lbs of pure hunt hunt hunt. I have NEVER seen a dog with so much drive. I believe any springer wants to hunt.

But if you really want a hunting dog, go field. Of course, there are always exceptions.

Here's a link to the Western Washington English Springer Spaniel Club.  They are into field work with their springers.  They can help you find a good breeder of field dogs.  There are a few spaniel hunt test coming up in april and may you might want to check out as there will be springer folks from all over the NW there PM me if you want spacifics.  There is also the Mount Rainier Sporting Spaniel Club an all spaniel breed(springer, clumber, english cocker, american water etc.) club that puts on hunt test also.
