Good luck this time of year.  Most Taxi's are holding on to theirs.  Their hard to come by.  I've got one extra and I'm probably going to use it for a set of sheds I have.

How Big a cape do ya need?
How big are the horns?
How much you wana pay?
Is it for a taxidermist or just a personal mount?

I was just curious what the rules would be on this subject, I have given several capes away to different folks and never even gave it a thought that it may not be legal.

Just wondering what you guys know.

Thanks !!

The cape is the same as meat.  If you give it away or sell it, Hunter info has to go with it.

Not sure.  Me and bucklucky can buy capes because we have taxi licenses. I know you can't buy fur bearing hides with out getting a fur dealers license.  Not sure about deer, elk, mooose, bear, etc)  I will find out though!

I don't have one...just a note, anytime I shoot a decent blacktail I do my best to save the cape and I trade it to a taxi friend of mine.  When I need some work of my own done he gives me $50.00 off per cape.  Seems fair to me.

WAC 232-12-071 Buying and selling game unlawful.   Unless prohibited by federal regulations, nonedible parts of wild animals, game birds, or game fish lawfully taken may be offered for sale, sold, purchased, or traded, except,

(1)  It is unlawful to offer for sale, sell, purchase or trade the following unless authorized by written permit issued by the director:
  (a)  Nonedible parts of cougar, bighorn sheep, or mountain goat.
  (b)  Velvet antlers, of deer or elk.
  (c)  Gall Balder, claws, or teeth of bear, except those claws or teeth permanently attached to a full bear skin or mounted bear.
 (2)  It is unlawful to knowingly buy, sell, or otherwise exchange, offer to buy, sell, or otherwise exchange the raw fur or carcass of a wild animal trapped in Washington with a body gripping trap, wether or not pursuant to permit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I interpret from this section of my taxidermy regulation pamphlet.  YES, you can buy, sell, or trade deer capes and hides.   BUT.....  You must pass along in writting all hunter information.

I was told by a F&G officer that cougar has now been taken off the list and is now legal to sell as long and the Seal is attached and all hunter info is accompanied with the hide...

This section was pulled word for would out of my Taxidermists and Fur Dealers Rules and Regulations Pamphlet given to me by F&G Department.
