UV Decoy Paints
«
on:

I was looking for decoy paint and ran across the UVision paint from Parker. Has anyone used this?
Secondly, what's the consensus on UV for decoys overall? Based on what I have read, I was tempted to try using a UV spray product like the ones used for fishing lures. UV Blast might work by spraying it on the deeks as you set them out.

Cheers!

Hey SnowDog,
I have not used this paint on my decoys though I I have been considering it. You will find some pretty in depth discussions on this subject under the forums at huntingsnows.com. Seems some who have tried it swear by it. Let us know what you think if you decide to give it a try!!!!!!

Did a bit more research into this today and discovered that spray on sunblock like Bullfrog, containing titanium dioxide, will reflect UV just like the UVision paint. Given that Bulfrog spray on gel is waterproof, clear, and dires quickly, I think it might be worth trying to apply to decoys when setting them out. Might be really good on snowgoose decoys also, since they reflect a ton of UV.
Anyone ever try this or hear of anything similar? I have not searched the huntingsnows.com forums yet, I still need to check that out.
Cheers!

You must have a lot of time on your hands after the surgery. Let us know how Bullfrog does I can see everyone now applying Bullfrog to all their decoys.

I could not find any or the parker paint around here locally. I went into the Michels crafts store with my little girl the other day for some thing. I went down the paint isle and saw that Americana paint had a snow white (Titanium) on the lable. but couldn't get anyone to tell me if it contained the titanium dioxide, so i emailed the company and here is thier repsonce...
Yes, our White Americana Paint contains Titanium Oxide. Let me know if you need anything else!
the line on the bottle says DA01 Snow (titanium) White... I will likely be getting some to touch up a few of my decoys unless i find some parkers here quick... Just thought you might like to know

Question on UV? I read some about the paint and last week I watched a show on Versus about Snows and they did a part on UV. Since they have the 4th cone does this mean when Im out in the open retrieving my ducks and a small group of ducks fly by, I call to them and turn them, Can they see the uv in the clothing??

As long as I am still killing birds consistently and not having any issues, I will continue doing what works. Another marketing ploy that probably helps, but if your not on the mark or not where the birds want to be, you will have some very nicely painted white decoys that you will get to stare at.

Agree w/ H2O. I tried a few UV products, but it really did not see any noticable difference. Spending time scouting and figuring out where the birds want to be was vastly more effective.

I've been told that sucessful hunting is made up of 3 things. Presentation, Concealment and location. and the last one is weighted heavier than the other 2. Do an excellent job on Presentation and concelment will pull birds. Get the location and you can be mediocre on the other 2..
I'm gona touch up my decoys with the pain since i need to anyway... we'll se how it helps...
