Grouse Hunting on the West Side
« on: November 15, 2010, 08:20:24 AM »
Been out hunting 2 times now in the last two weekends and was wondering if anyone knows of some general areas on or around Snohomish County ?  Hunted up Woods Creek the weekend of November 6-7 and didn't see any nor find any places to get up into the higher forest where I suspect they are hiding.

This last weekend we went up to Spada Lake and wandered onto some old roads and chopped up trails but couldn't get up to the north end of the lake where I remember getting into them.  Most of the roads are all blocked off and my hunting partner has a bad foot so we were hoping to get higher in the rig and then tromp off in the woods from there ?  We did not see any birds yesterday either.  I'm ready to hit the eastside if I can't find something over here so I can get my dog on some birds. Any suggestions for this area ?

Ive shot grouse in sultan basin, and gold creek exit off I-90 at top of snoqualmie pass. not sure where to go up north of there though... if you find a  likely spot but don't see anything, it doesn't mean they aren't in there. put some miles on the boots and you'll eventually get surprised.

Any over grown logging road after a rain is pretty good... Especially if there is Salmon berrys growing on the side of them...  :twocents:

So the weather is wet this weekend and snow is getting down low. Will grouse be out at all in the foothills or will they be holed up? I have some free time this weekend and may take a hike with my dog, would it be worth toting the shotgun around?

I would think it would be easier to find them because you can see tracks.  In this muddy season it's hard to see where they've been.  I would say bring the gun and maybe you'll stumble on some ?

I would bring the gun, because if you don't, you will probably see grouse!

I used to hunt grouse up in the Wood's Creek area and did pretty well, but I've noticed a lot of the roads I used to hunt are now developed.  There are a lot of roads further up to the north towards Granite Falls.  They will be gated, but I've never had any problem.  I'd bring your fishing pole, the roads up there have beaver ponds all over the place.
