Computer is frying...
« on: November 16, 2010, 07:22:24 AM »
I'm pretty sure it wasn't designed to take on this many pics.   I offload all of them onto a different harddrive, but the program saves a thumbprint of every pic.   I now have almost 50,000 thumbnails on here

Oh hell.. That's nothin! My son's got more music files on his ipod!  :chuckle:

What format do you save your images in?  Do you burn DVD's as backup media and save them at say... Idabooner's?  Backups, should be saved/stored off-site. Hard drives do fail.

Buy.com has some good deals on 1 and 2 TB portable hard drives this time of year.  Probably about what you would need for the amount of pictures you take!

You should definitely consider the hard drive option.  For less than a $150.00 you can get a giant hard drive that will hold everything. I DIDN'T do this last year and ended up with a virus that wiped my hard drive.  I fixed it, invested in some disk recovery tools and got almost all of my important files back, but I certainly don't take any chances any more.  Fry's will have good deals sometimes, too, and I saw some disks at Costco for a good price but I'm not sure if they still have them.

I'm using a 1 tb passport to offload on.  Problem is all of the thumbs that are on my computer through this program.  I'm not sure I can export them.
