yeah and the huge rosie's live on the coast! Watched the *censored*s for the past 3 months, but oh wait a mnute! RED DOTS EVERY WHERE AND PERMIT ONLY SIGNS EVERY WHERE! dAMN IT.....T SHOULD ALL BE PUBLIC! bUT back to the origins of the topic. Good luck on your big bull tag! It all depends weher you hunt as for the nemah, salmon creek, deep river, edan vallay, bear river ridge, willipa flats, willipa valley, trout lakes, camp creek, suixon, marble, vader/ryderwood, and the  favorite long beach penn! There is bad ass elk and big ones! But heck even the land of wolves and vampires has toads! Its all about putting your time in the woods! I found 2 bulls this year that are crowned! But guess what come general rifle I wasnt the only person who saw them. Bout a dozen others had as well. So as for the special permit they are great for one thing, you might not get corked on your bull youve been watching for 3 months, but you might wake up and see him on private timber land opening day!. which SUCKS!!! Because by the time you walked or biked in he would be 8.5 miles from your truck! Dont get me wrong I had a great season we got elk, deer, bear, turkeys, and birds....

Define " trophy bull of a lifetime ", to different folks that can mean different things. To me an " average joe " kinda guy in regards to income and resources my bull of a lifetime may be differnt than a guy like Agnew who can afford tags in the best units all the time with, unlimited scouting and research available.

My trophy bull of a lifetime is a knarly crowned roosevelt bull, black horn with white tips, 1000 lbs on the hoof, very mature animal, a minimum of 3 mile, pack out, and I have hunted a whole season chasing this dude. Its the last day and Im within 30 yards in the dark timber and ferns. The bull is bugling and working cows chasing off other bulls, A heavy mist is in the air, soaking everything but not actually qualifying as rain, the bull is broadside and takes the perfectly placed arrow  right behind the shoulder. tipping over less than a hundred yards away. I dont know the score and I dont care, hes MY trophy.

But if we are talkin numbers, 260+ roosie and 360 + rocky are my goals and what I would ( hope ) to hold out for in a premium unit. Wenaha, Tuccanon, Dayton. My top Rocky Bull tags in this state. ( although I never apply cuz I hunt wetside, and out of state ). For a true Roosevelt as defined by BC and PY I would have to say Matheny. If I didnt care about "true" blood, I have seen enough big crown bulls in the margarite in the last two years that I think thats still an option. I agree with most on here the majority of tags in washington are opportunity tags, more than quality tags. And the real " quality tags" can litteraly be a OIL thing. On a positve note I have seen tremendous bulls in non draw, or eaiser to draw units, both east and westside.

While the debate continues and we wait for a lucky draw the tribes are for hire to the rich white man hunting rutting bulls in the blues.

Thank you everyone for contributing to the topic, I really appreciate all the advice.. good and bad.  I have only killed one bull in my life. It was a nice 3x4 that I got on my second year of hunting.  I have only been hunting elk for 6 years now (sorry I am a transplant from the midwest) and they say the average is 1 in 7 years so I would say I am doing pretty good so far.  I think my definition of a trophy bull is something that is respectable enough to hang on the wall and more importantly a nice bull that comes with a great story about me working my ass of to get.  I will let you all know if when and where I do draw my special permit tag.  Meanwhile I will continue to look for that trophy bull on public lands during the regular season just like everyone else. God Bless Elk Hunting!!

So, what you're saying is that you are not going to apply for the Blues since it is spike only there?  :dunno:  Or are you going to plan on getting the Muti-Season permit and apply in E WA units when you have the multi-permit?
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I am definitely going to put in for the Blues without a doubt, what so ever, I am certain of that, for sure, totally confident, done deal.  That's where all the bulls are right?

Never hunted the blues but doesn`t sound like I`m missing much. :PSpend most of my time in the colockum and manasatash.I`ll tell ya for sure there wasn`t much in the manasatash this year. But the colockum was full of nice bulls. Good luck on the draw cuz I`ll be one of the ones with a tag next year. Maybe you can draw the other one. :dunno:
