Sorry to hear it.  I had a place about 18 years ago that was loaded with Pheasant.  It was hard to hunt and I spent more time watching them fly out then shooting them do to early flushes, but it was that one place I could count on to at least see them.  After a successful hunt one day my buddy and I ran into my boss at the time.  He all but begged for us to take him.  We told him that it was important that he not share it's location with others.  He swore he would never do such a thing.  We took him.  Turns out that he was friends with the reporter of the sports page for our local paper.  I got to read a lovely article about this spot I showed him, with directions, and it told everyone that it held birds a plenty.  It took about another week for this land to be posted by the owner due to people not respecting the land. It appeared that someone had driven their 4x4 through the property to create a trail through the thick brush. Shortly after that the owner mowed it to the ground. He hadn't done that in all the years I hunted it. Not only did I not have that land to hunt, but all the Pheasants lost the cover they count on.  I let my boss have it, but the damage was done and the land lost.

Wow, that really shows the character for you "friend".  I don't know if I could let that go unchallenged.  I think I'd have to ask him why he found it necessary to betray the trust I had placed in him by sharing a favorite hunting spot?  Then I would be done with him.

He sounds like the kind of guy you couldn't trust around you girl either.  What a Jacka$$.

Heck I'll wear the blindfold and sleep on the way there if we can shoot some birds. You can even search & pat me down like the TSA to insure I don't have my GPS. When do we leave?

AHHHHHHH the code.I know the code and obey it,My freind and pro trainer has taken me to numerous spots,I've taken him and another freind of his to my spots,we all understand that a guys spot is his spot.I have another freind who took me to his honey hole last year,he understands the code and knows that I do too.

I also have a few aquaintances that I WOULD NEVER EVER take to a good spot because while they are all in all pretty decent guys they just can't be trusted. The lack of trust on my part stems from their inexperiance, the inexperiance is what tempts them to poach a primo private spot.I've got one guy that I hunt with some on the westside that I've shown the secrets to chicken hunting. It's not really any secret but his actions have shown me that he can't be trusted with private ground on the line in eastern washington. He'd be back with 4 of his other buddies quicker than you could say "Rumplestillskin".

Thats a crappy lesson to learn..  Find a new spot and let him know how good it is, show him pictures of limits, and make him beg, and then tell him you can't take him because he burned you last time!

Its tough to find hunting partners that you can trust, very few will keep your secret spots "secret" when they go with their other buds!

Unless you are absolutely sure a friend is very ethical and his word is gold...............don't give up a spot, period.  The temptation is just too great for most.  Killing something overrides a personal promise.

In my lifetime of friends, I can count on one hand the ones I could honestly trust as such.  Sad...but that's just the way it is.

Man, that sucks.  That happened to me once too.   One time I took a few "friends" from work quail hunting, and a covey of 5 birds was in the road.   We got out and I tried to get them to fly into the field next to the road so we could go after them, but they just sat there.  So I said, "well, let's move on, they aren't going to fly off the road."  I turned my back, and a few seconds later, "BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM."  They killed the entire covey on the road.  I couldn't believe it.  Ass hats.

I've got 2 friends that hunt that I would share info with.  That is all.  I do not have any super secret spots yet.  Even if i did I would trust those 2 people.  It only takes one time to get burned and I do not want to get burned once.

i know how ya feel have had the same thing happen to me, took a now rarely seen aquiantence thought he was good buddy back then out for a quial hunt after months of begging. bigest mistake was taking him to my #1 public land spot. we limited in less than 45mins all the while he was asking questions as to who owns the land why did i park where i did is there a secondary way in how do the birds act once flushed etc etc etc.  i was 16 and like the moron i was when i was 16 i answered all of them trying to show off my "knowledge".  low and behold whos there the next weekend with 2 buddies and 3 dogs, yup, i yelled at that guy till i was blue in the face didnt matter they hunted that piece of ground to the very last quail that spot is to this day still trying the recover

if i cant trust a person with my life than they dont get shown spots on my good list, if i simply trust the person or if they are a good friend wanting to get out for hunting or fishing than they get to go to the so-so or we may get lucky spots.

Naches,  I wouldn't be pissed at the guy if its public land.  If he found "your spot" watching you walk in or out and explored it on his own like he claimed then look in the mirror, you burned yourself.  If your buddy gave it up then the blame goes to him.

I would not even think of doing that because when you found the guy in your new spot you would be even more pissed at yourself. All it would take is a few pictures, a little brag here and there, and when he sees your truck parked somewhere and starts looking and poking around he will soon be in there with his buddies.
