2010 Late whitetail.....tagged out
« on: November 18, 2010, 10:44:11 AM »
just got back last night. 3 of us....one missed forked horn, one 4x5 tagged and I tagged out on this guy.

Here's the quick story for me.  Woke up early to hit an area that had a ton of scrapes....I mean a ton. Putting on my socks I strained my back out .....pretty bad.  I know, I know but sometimes the simplist things can do that. Change of plans at that point. I went to look at some clearcuts to see some moose. Hit the second clearcut and spot something big. At first I thought it was a big blackbear but after a closer look found out it was a huge bull moose. Antlers just laid out....really wide. So, I think to myself, sure would like to get closer and maybe take a pic. Off I go. I got to the backside of another clearcut that joined the one the moose was in and realized that I had my gun but not the camera. Only to shells as well. couldn't find the moose but saw this guy out about 160 yards in the middle of the clearcut. BOOM....down for the count....tag filled. By the time I got him back to the truck my back hurt so bad I just wanted to lay there and die. Not the biggest whitetail I've killed but he will work. 144lbs. at the butcher.

Just wished I could have gotten a pic of that moose......he was huge.
Just one more day

Nice buck.  They seem to be coming in heavy this year.  Mine had a thick layer of fat, i'm guessing by the weight of that one that he had quite the layer going too.
