You guys are crazy. The big bucks hang out in B. Don't let these guys fool you by going to A.

definitely go with "B".  Everyone knows about "A" and it gets crowded.   :twocents:

anywhere in the swakane unit away from the crowds has a good potential of getting a great buck, this time of year there is no perfect place to be other than out beating the brush..good luck to you though

I actually have done quite a bit of scouting up there and I've been seeing more bucks in B.  You should probably check that area out.

the best place to go in swakane is right in front of me. ;) seriously, if we get some weather it shouldn't really matter where you go. Just be patient and don't worry about the crowds of people. Sit in a good spot and stay put, eventually some bozo will push something your way. Good luck!  :hello:

Any steep terrain between 2000-3500' elevation, out of sight of an open road.  Open ponderosa pines, brush fields, old burns with deciduous regeneration.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Guess who that bozo will likely be!  Yeah, that's right.  Me.

Well, I have a decent camera, so I'll take some pictures of you and your nice buck and post them for you.  Oh, I just bought a new pack and I'm looking forward to getting some weight in it, so I'll help you pack it out.

By the way, I'm only half kidding...

Well, that might be the part I was kidding about  :chuckle: (although if someone needed the help I would definitely pitch in.)

It was a zoo and I was a little annoyed last year (I wasn't packing a bow, though, because I'd already gotten a buck - just along for the ride.)  However, I was annoyed at the situation and not any individuals.  Everyone that I ended up talking to seemed like alright guys.

I have a couple of other spots - one an old standby and another kind of a new one that I want to check out - so I may or may not be in the Swakane.  Assuming that this snow holds, it'll be hard not go there, though.

This guy knows what he is talking about.  The lower burned areas are going to be POUNDED this year by everyone looking for deer they can see.  Get away from the roads.  It was a zoo up there last year, even way up high in the snow where chains were a MUST!  Seen a few rigs stuck and almost got myself into a hairy situation on a hill.  Carry spare underwear.

You went up there without chains?  I'm surprised you're still alive to post here.  I didn't put all 4 on last year, but the fronts were chained up.  I wouldn't have wanted to be up there without them...

Yeah I've driven those hills all my life and know when to stop before I get in too much trouble :chuckle:  There was one hill I couldnt get up and neither could another rig that was right in front of me.  They were in a olive colored Chevy Avalanche.  I helped them chain all 4 up and they gave me a ride up about a mile or so and dropped me off so I could hunt my way around and back to my truck.  Very nice people.

I went up the Friday after Thanksgiving so there wasn't a whole lot of snow, enough to make your butt pucker though.  I trust my Cummins :chuckle:
