I like them a lot Bankwalker but they are expensive. If I paid that much I would want a rifle that could take down an elk so I would get the Mark V Ultra Lightweight in .280. A 257 Wea Mag doesn't make much sense because it's 6 3/4 lbs and the .280 is 5 3/4. By the way, there is a version out there called the Super Big Game Master or something that came with a good custom barrel in that gun. It's supposed to be a great gun at about the same price. You can find them around if you look.
yeah i think im gonna go with 280 on w/e rifle i get next. just found out my buddie is reloading for that round.
I have also been thinking hard about the 280. looks like it could be an outstanding all around mountain rifle.
I think .280 is my favorite non-magnum round for north american game. A few years ago I saw a show with Bob Robb and he took a grizzly with three shots from his .280 right behind the shoulder. I think the first would have killed him but as they say, as long as they are standing keep shooting. On another note, I'm glad that Weatherby has figured out how to make a 5 3/4 lb rifle. That Mark V 30-06 in that picture was the heaviest gun around. I seriously think it weighed 11 lbs minimum. Kind of a neat gun though because it came with a Weatherby 3x9 scope from the factory in Weatherby brand. My dad ended up selling it because it was too heavy to carry. Pretty rifle though.Shawn
