Hey does anyone know of a local taxidermy shop that has beetles for cleaning the skull for a European mount.  I heard that Cle Elum has a guy.  Anyone in the south King county area?

I am doing my own today.  Not a tough job to do at home on a rainy day.  Had the skinned out head in my fridge (garage fridge) for almost two months now.  Took it out a couple days ago and let it sit.  Got a pot of boiling water and added some sodium carbonite and let is boil for a couple hours.  Cleaning the flesh off and soaking.  When I am done I will let it dry and add a bleaching past.  Let it sit for a couple days and clean again.  Be ready to mount on a stand or plaque.  I have done 6 or 8.

Michelle Nelson, on this site is the best european skull expert I know.  I visited her shop last year and took a look at all the deer, elk and bear she was working on.  She uses a technique called "maceration" that produces the cleanest, most complete skulls I have ever seen.

Here is my mount.  This is the first one I have done so I'm happy with the results.  I just went the boiling route as he's not a record book buck but still worthy to take up some space in the garage.  I did the plaque with a burned looked I thought was cool.  Forgive the tape as I had some skull damage from the kill shot and the epoxy is still setting.

I know a guy that lives in carbonato that has a taxidermy shop and he also has beatles. If you pm me I will pass on his number.

You can do it yourself with hydrogen peroxide for about $5 dollars and it will be finished in about 3 hours.  Just add 3 quarts of hp to a pot of water and the skull submerged (keep horns out of it as best as possible, I wrap the bases in cloth to protect them), heat it to just below boiling so it doesn't foam, and wait about two hours.  Don't let it go to long though as it does not look as good.  After boiling you will then need to pick at it for a little while to get rid of any meat or anything else that is still on it.  For the nose cavity I usually use a long skinny knife and or screw driver to ream it out as there is a lot of crap up there in the sinuses.  Some people also use a pressure washer to speed up the last step.  You will never pay to have it done again.  It is very easy, quick and looks as good as any.

Or just by the hair dressers whitener and mix with water and brush the paste on and wala it turns white.

does anyone know how long it takes to get beetling done for a european mount? All i want is to get my mount back and enjoy it, but it's still not done!!!
