Copper Creek
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:49:52 AM »
I went down to Copper Creek in the 654 GMU this weekend. Went up just above the snow line and found a decent walk-in area. Walked for about an hour before finding "fresh" tracks. After following them for some time, it dawned on me that they were probably from earlier that night (no snow was falling on Saturday, but there was already 6 inches on the ground). They did lead me to a good watering hole where there was lots of recent activity. I waited that area until four-wheelers started coming up on the forestry road very loudly. I called it quits early that day and went back on Sunday. Midday on Sunday more four-wheelers came into the area. This seems like a decent area (as I saw at least one person getting a buck out each day), but I think it would be better hunted on a weekday when their are less people out getting their kicks. If you do go down there, try to get yourself far away from the forestry road and look at a topographic map first. Next season I'll scout higher up the road and try to take a week off from work.
