My First Biggest Washington Columbian Blacktail deer
« on: November 22, 2010, 08:01:06 PM »
Hello everyone, I'm a new member to this website. I finally had the opportunity to hunt on Oct 30Th after a year long deployment to Afghanistan. Me and my buddy had plan this on every patrol we had. It was an early morning, I waited for the go time, so I decided to scout out the nearby areas, but I only found beddings and tracks. So I heard a shot and I assumed my buddy was the lucky one. I started to walk back to our meeting area when I spotted a doe 250 meters away. I used the brush line to cover my movement and I looked through my binos to confirm the does. I continued to observe the does when I noticed them constantly looking at the treeline, so I observed what they were looking at. I saw a deer figure, but he was 450 meters away and moving rapidly to the does position, so I crept closer to get a better look. I now closed the gap to 200 meters from the does when I took another glanced at the approaching deer, that's when I noticed his impressive rack. When he approached the does I waited for the doe to move and he expose his broad side, that's when I took the shot. He did a 360 and down he went.

That is a genuine PIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Congrats.  You are ruined now.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

That is truly a buck of a lifetime. Thank you for your service and NOTHING makes me happier than to see and hear this story. I cant imagine the gratitude you must have felt during this hunt. Without service men and women like you and your buddy we would not have the chance to hunt and live the lives we live.

Congrats!!!

Wow, huge blacktail!  Congrats, and thanks for your service too!  Like cooneyes said, better stop hunting blacktails, cause if you try and beat that, it'll be a LONG time before you even see a deer that big.  Switch to muleys or whitetails next year, do that for a few years, then come back to blackies when you're ready again!  I blew it on a huge blackie last year, didn't get the shot, and I'm haunted now.....

Congrats on a nice looking blacktail. It won't score that high or make the record book but one you surely wouldn't want to pass up when hunting.

Congrats on the buck and thank you for your service to our country.

I'm very confused by your choice of adjectives. If its your first BT deer, then wouldn't a small spike be the biggest also? Or should you say "my first BIG blacktail"?
