looking for a smaller/medium sized water dog
« on: November 25, 2010, 10:28:16 AM »
What are my choices?  I'm not into the size of a Lab, I'm looking at a Boykin Spaniel or a Nova Scotia duck toller.  What other options are there?

You could get a Labradoodle.  I've heard they are really good for waterfowling.  I know that whole poodle part isn't the greatest selling feature, but have seen good reviews by those that use them.  The ones I've heard about are maybe as tall as a lab, but weigh a bit less.

Pudelpointer. Mine weighs 50 pounds and loves the water as much as any of my labs.

American Water Spaniel where comes my handle AWS.  Great retriever sized like a springer, better coat than a springer and handles cold weather/water very well.  Developed by midwest comercial duck hunters in the 1800's  fits very well in the skiffs and canoes used in that part of the country.  The eastcoast had their chessys the midwest had there little brown dogs.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I know a couple breeders of both Boykins and Tollers. I've seen them both work in the field and do very well with ducks.

I can put you in touch with a few breeders when/if you are interested. Just PM me.
