R.I.P. Old Dog
« on: November 26, 2010, 10:08:43 AM »
Had to put my best friend down this morning.  Keeneye was 16 years akc old chocolate lab.  She was from the Super Chief lineage, and had a lot of spark in her day.  Her last retrieve was a big 'ol Canada goose up in a slough on the Skagit.  She got to the point where her bones just got too cold to hunt, so she's been sitting on the porch and by the fire for the past 7 years.  Good watchdog until this past week when the cold snap just took a toll.  One short trip outside & she was so stoved up she couldn't move.

Good dog, Keeneye.  You've answered every call.  I know you bolted and tore down duck blinds once in a while, but you're forgiven.  Sorry for getting pissed.  What goes on in the duck blind, stays in the duck blind.

R.I.P.

Thanks guys.  Got great memories, for sure.  Seems like the older you get & the longer you keep a dog, the harder it is.  I guess that's why I put it of to the last minute.  Thanks for the thoughts.

sorry for yur loss. I too know how it feels. rest assured Keeneye is bustin up the blind with lots of energy today. sucks when they get old. We tend to only remember the younger days but a mellow lab that has a few years on him/her is a fantastic friend.

Sorry for your loss. I once had a Chocolate (female) from Super Chief lineage. Superb dog/companion. My current female Chocolate is 11 1/2 yo. Still hunting but it's getting harder for her. I'm finding myself wanting to more and more hunt alone with her. To savor quality time with her. Been taking a lot more field photos this year too. I went 6 dogless years between labs. Never do that again. 16 yrs, WOW, I'll take that as evidence that you took great care of her and I'm sure she rewarded you for that love. R.I.P. Keeneye.
