I filled my Montana deer tag this morning.  :IBCOOL: Got a nice little 4x4 whitetail. I will post the story and pictures when I get home tomorrow as we don't have the adapter to download the pictures to my computer.

Here are a few pics of my buck that I shot the morning of the 26th. Our trip began with us leaving early Wednesday morning with a deer tag in my pocket and an elk tag in my dad's pocket. Too much coffee forced us to stop at a rest stop and lucky we did because when we were getting in the truck and switching drivers, I heard a hiss from my back tire and sure enough, we were losing air pretty quick. We brought along a patch kit and a pump so we tried to pull out the piece of snow chain but couldn't. Lucky for us, we worked it out and around far enough that it basically plugged the hole. From there, we made it to Moses Lake and stopped at Les Schwab. Two and a half hours later, we were back on the road but a little behind schedule. We were hoping to make it over there with an hour or so of light so that we could drive around and learn the roads a bit for the first morning. We arrived with about a half hour of light and headed into the hills. We came to a spot where I could pull over again because my old man was about to burst from all the coffee. As he was taking a leak I grabbed the binos and started glassing a little clearing on a hillside. Sure enough, there was a cow elk up feeding and not more then 100 yards from her, there were 4 deer. Needless to say we were pretty stoked and drove around until dark just getting a lay of the land. The next morning found us again driving around and trying to find some places that we wanted to focus on. That night, we went back to the spot we had seen the elk and deer and I took over for an evening hike while my dad sat at the bottom and watched to see if I chased anything around. That hike produced about 10 or so deer including a little spike that I passed on. The next morning we decided that we were going to set up a ways below the clearing along a big set of power lines as the deer that we saw the night before were all headed down that way. When we arrived, there was already a rig parked and two people were out hiking the road that went up to the clearing. I was a bit bummed but we decided to stick with the game plan and watch the lower powerline area. I watched a few does work their way in front of me and I was starting to get pretty cold. Then I heard a gun shot and my heart sank, about 10 seconds later there was another, then about 30 seconds later another. All three shots came from what sounded like the upper clearing. I radioed my old man, who was sitting a little ways behind me that I thought it was about time to go as my toes were frozen and the gunshots couldn't have helped our cause. He said he wanted to stay a little while longer and that he wanted to come sit by me for a little bit. We sat there about 10-15 minutes when all of a sudden I looked down the powerlines a ways and there stood a deer and I didn't even have to put up my binos, even at 280 yards, to know that it was a buck. My old man glassed him really quick and said, he is a good one, take him. I rested my gun on my knee, slowly dropped the cross hairs towards his shoulder and just as I was a few inches over his shoulder i squeezed off the shot. (280 yards and a bit down hill) I saw him jump up in the air and kick out his back legs like a bull coming out of the gates. He ran towards the trees, one more shot at him and he disappeared. I immediately second guessed myself and thought I shot over him but the leg kick gave me hope. We walked down and found where he was standing and found a little blood in the snow. We got on his tracks and didn't see any more blood (there was blood the whole way that we saw on the way back out) We followed them into the trees and about 10 yards into the trees I saw a big splatter of blood and suddenly my dad said those magic words, "There he is!" I was so happy! My first shot had hit him perfect and taken out both lungs. A few yelps, a few high fives and a few man hugs later and my Montana hunt was over. We decided to come back this morning and now I can relax tomorrow with a cold beer and enjoy some football. Not a bad Turkey day break if you ask me!

It was pretty cold but not nearly as cold as it had been. It was about 15 degrees when I shot him which seemed warm after the negative temps the previous few days!

For those of you who are wondering, that is ice on the bucks forehead. That goes to show how cold it really was....  :camp:
