where can i deer hunt in washington?
« on: November 26, 2010, 04:20:32 PM »
Hey HUNTING WASHINGTON forum members! i am new to hunting and i am going deer hunting next season i just am not sure where to go. i want to stay in Washington because buying a license for another state would be too much cash. I want to find a place that is not very crowded and that is on public land because i do not want to pay a bunch of money to hunt on somebodies land. i would hunt on someones land if they let me for free but i just want to enjoy the sport and get a nice black tail deer to mount over my fireplace as my first kill. if you can help me PLEASE DO. :)
I am only 13 so i am a youth if that makes a difference and i have what is known as modern firearms. if you could also tell me when deer season is that would be amazing because it is so hard to start hunting when you don't have parents that hunt. Deer season is Oct. 15-31 correct?

all in all: really just stop bitching about 'being a troll' and stuff. i was just looking for some advice on where i could take my first hunt.

Thanks everyone and i will try the timber company land.

The second post was very telling.  I do not buy it either.  I guess that is what is meant by a "troll", trolling for information under false pretense?  How would he know what a troll is and I do not.  The second post was written in a much different manner than the first.  He has a fireplace or at least one where he can put a mount when his parents do not hunt?  and more...  Just does not feel right.

i know what a troll is because like every other kid i play video games. i go to one of the most advanced schools in Washington the Federal Way Public Academy and i do just fine. and to you adults you do not know your kids. you think you do but you dont. your kids use language that they 'shouldnt know' and they hide everything from you. my paernts support me hunting because like me, they enjoy shooting and my step dad is a fisher. i dont preticularly enjoy fishing and when i discovered how much i enjoy shooting through Boy Scouts of America. plus i would like to bring up a whole new side of the story. why would i use a fake identity to find out where to go hunting? i believe people should not be ashamed of themselfs and live a little.
thank you all who are actually supporting me on this.

Fair enough I will switch gears and support you but please tell me what school you go to as my kids are in private school and they teach how to spell.  O.k. low blow but you being 13 and getting lippy with your elders will get you nowhere and quite frankly will get you run off.

yeah i know. i just hate how people are distrustful (distrustful? is that even a word)
i go to the federal way public academy fwps.org/pa it is only 6th - 10th grade. i would understand if they are teaching your children spelling if they are in k-2nd grade.

The best way to find good spots to hunt deer is...... Get into the woods and look. It is not going to happend overnight. There are a lot of people that go hunting for years before they get a shot at a decent buck. Go camping, read articles, network with PEOPLE YOU KNOW. This is a very good site, I've learned a lot of things on here. Don't be impatient, you have plenty of time, enjoy the outdoors. Also, I really could give a rats ass about how the kids now days know so many adult things, LOL. Best advise... listen to some of the old guys, I know as stupid as we are we've managed to muck through life on our own, and tip over a few animals in the process.

You can hunt deer everywhere except where you can't.  That sounds flippant, but it is the truth. I live in a suburb of Seattle and could legally hunt in my backyard but my neighbors can't because they are in a "no shooting" zone.  If you're 13 you cannot drive, so you will be depending on some means of transportation unless you plan to hunt in your backyard also.  How far is your ride going to take you?  Can you get to the Region 1 units north of Spokane, for example?

There are deer in virtually every part of the state.  More than half of the property in the state is privately owned.  If you can't hunt private land, then you will either have to (a) drive to some of the more remote parts of the state, (b) hike in a long ways, or (c) slug it out with the masses.

There is a 11 day early season in September in wilderness areas.  That's a great option for getting away from crowds.  You can apply for special youth permits.  The application period is in the spring.

My advice is to read the big game pamphlet in detail.  Get ten copies and stick one everywhere: in your bedroom, in your bathroom, in your school backpack.  Look at the deer seasons available and match them to your schedule.  Go to the WDFW website and study harvest data.  This will give you an indication of the areas that have higher success.  http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/harvest/

Read the posts at this forum.  Don't ask questions that you haven't done homework on first. You could have known the deer seasons before asking where to hunt.  That suggests to people you may be lazy.  You can't demand respect or trust but you can earn it.

Good luck!

Alright, ok, a couple of gun courses on safety and handling. Can't argue there, however, I'm still a doubtfull SOB. Gonna have to get used to it. The fact that you are A: sticking with it B: maybe legit is not lost.

If everything is on the up and up then I'll say you can learn quite a bit on this site. A lot of folks that know a hell of a lot more than I do.

I'm still a doubter though.

Your all a bunch of tards...
If the "said person" was truely "fishing", or "Scamming" or any of the accused....  As most of you know, he would have been out on the first  mention of the words....
If not, who cares.. your still a bunch of tards for bidding into his world...
Bottom line... dont be a dick....
Even if a scam, simple instructions or a general direction show a lot more about character than dwelling on the "words" or "phrase" that your vast experiance as a detective or laywer can pinpoint as fake....
We all suck at spelling, grammer, politics, etc...
Help a dude out... comment on his victories.... help him out on learining the loops... direct him to help, or dont answer... but dont be a dick...
Keeps a lot of dudes from sharin their stories... to include me...
And man.... being from the NW, and being stuck in FL... I live off the stories that y'all post....
Dont like em.... Dont post.... Just dont be a dick....

Raw0192...welcome to the site. Sorry about the initial greeting but if you have been reading on the site you can almost understand the apprehensions of the members. You have a year as mentioned, use it to find your info. Find a person or persons to take you out. You mentioned you were/are in boy scouts perhaps someone there hunts :dunno:...ask the Dads as a lot of boys your age do not hunt as girls are their only intrest. Perhaps a Dad in your troop would be interested in taking you. Also as you take your hunter ed class look around and make a few introductions, if you shoot already with your folks look around the gun club for hunters and get some info there. Bottom line you will have to WORK to find a hunting partner/mentor then you will have to WORK more to get into the woods and then really WORK to find and bag a blacktail. Stick with it, stay active on this site and at the gun club and good luck.

I have found someone who would take me out and mentor me on deer hunting. Thanks alot for all of the help. and i completely agree with your thoughts on the members of this site. almost every post i see contains the words 'troll' or 'scam'. if only people would realize this site was for hunting not ranting.
-Good Hunting

I almost can say that this is the initial hazing.  If you can weather this storm and stick around, You will have proved your fortitude and be accepted.  Stupid as it is, this seems to be the norm on any forum anywhere on the internet.

Seems like the spelling and punctuation have diminished since it was mentioned   hmmmm???

LOL.  This kid if legit definately shows his age and ignorance.  But then again at 13 I knew more than my elders as well, hell I was the smartest person in the world at 13.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.
