blues deer hunt report
« on: September 28, 2011, 01:59:39 PM »
We have been hunting down here all week and have passed on a few smaller 3 points. This morning we hiked to the top of a ridge and at daylight a helicopter buzzed over us at about 100you feet above us. It looked to me like they were scouting for elk. A holes. We will keep at it until we come home friday.

Where are you hunting generally? What unit?

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I hate to say it but, they were probably looking for elk but not for the reason your think! Jackelope knows what I mean that's why he asked your unit/area.  :bash:

I was hunting Lick Creek, plane fly overs on Sat. and Tues.  Flying very low, slow and going up and down the ridges.

LOL No it probably had exempt Wa plates! It's the game dept. they do this every year before hunting season they heard the elk out of the private ground into the forest and then try to keep them in there! STUPID system, considering they make us buy tags to hunt the elk outside the forest then chase them into the forest where we can't go!  :bash: :bash: Talk to the farmers up there, this is a real popular stystem with them  :chuckle:

They did that last year over here on the wetside.  The DFW helos were cruising all around the drainages for elk surveys, but last year they decided to do it at the same time the national park was doing their own elk surveys.  Helicopters buzzing all around.  Right during hunting season!  For the case of the blues, they were probably just trying to drive them to their precious wolves.

All speculation guys, lets not get too bent out of shape until someone knows for a fact what is going on, it could have been someone out on a sight seeing trip.

F&G are not doing elk surveys in September and the auction tag holder is not flying around looking for elk either. Conspiracy theorists unite. :chuckle:

Just got home a few hours ago from our deer hunt. We did not get any deer, we let the small ones live and never could find the big boy again. We ran into one indian road hunting every road up there. Talked to the forest service and they said it was their plane that was flying all week over the unit. Also talked to the game warden and he said he knew nothing about the helicopter, but they had gotten a few reports of the blue and white copter flying low low low in the unit. He said he was going to go and try to find the indian "hunting" up there. Killed one rattle snake and seen a few others on the main road someone else had killed. I found a dead cow elk this morning that looked like it had been dead for about two or three weeks. We met the lucky guy with the muzzy bull tag, I should of asked for some of their luck because they cleaned up on special permits this year. We will be back in the rifle season in hopes of finding the big boy we seen opening day. Good luck to all you hunters that are heading our soon.
