mendel boots
«
on:

FYI i purchased a pair of mendel hunting boots the perfect hunter model. they were great the first time i wore them after that they began to squeak with each step i took, figured it was a break in thing and continued to hunt with them by the fourth hunt they were so loud they sounded like a was opening and closing a squeaky door very loud! I'am taking them back to Cabelas tomorrow for a refund!
Has anybody else purchased these boot and experienced the same thing?
I was thinking about getting a pair of Irish setters by red wing

I've got a pair that squeak like that. I only wear them to work. My first pair didn't do this but after these ones, I'll be trying a new brand of boot.

First two pair I had didn't do it. I LOVED THEM. I WORE THEM OUT. Then I got my third. Drove me nuts. I bought a fourth hoping it was a fluke. They also squeeked like hell. It was screwing up my hunting. I switched to Kenetreks. LOVE THEM

I was a huge supporter of this boot by the way. I tried everything to get rid of the squeek. Injected mink oil into the sole etc. I could not get rid of it.

I have a pair of these boots.. Mine don't squeak?
When I first bought them I put leather softner / water repellant all over the boots several times before I wore them. I would put the product on the boot and put it by the fire place to get it warm to soak in. I repeated it several times and I have never had an issue with these boots. I wouldn't buy another boot personally! I hope my next pair doens't squeak?

I LOVE mine. Most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. Mine don't squeek at all. I wonder why some do and some don't? Kind of weird...
I'll probably have mine worn out at the end of next year - not looking forward to it since I'll then need a new pair and I might not get so lucky next time.

That they are. I'd choose them over a pair of slippers.

I have 2 pair and it took a few treatments of obenaufs to get rid of the squeaks in the boots. I do notice they run a little larger (1/2 size) and wider than other boots.
Love mine. Very comfortable and I put green superfeet in mine. I wait till they go on sale in Cabelas. Can pick them up for around 125-150 dollars. Lowa's and Kenetreck a little better boot but paying a little more money too.

Hey Boneaddict, which Kenetreks do you have? I have been in the market for a new hunting boot.

I have 3 pairs - the perfekt hunters, perfekt hikers, and the Denali's. I never had any issues with squeaking, just keep them oiled with Obenauf's LP.
I just keep alternating them and so far they have all held up well to all conditions. Nver had a blister or wet feet, can go for miles without getting sore feet, worth every penny.

I agree with the rest, these boots are by far the most comfortable boot I've ever owned or worn.
I was buying $100 to $150 boots every year and wearing them out. Waterproof failing, threads breaking etc. Finally decided to up the ante a couple years ago and man I'll never go back.
I probably overly apply the obenaughs leather treatment to them but heck that stuff is made 15 miles from my house and it truly works wonders. If you take well care of your boots they will last you several years. Clean them after every trip, DONT DRY them out by the fire, apply the obenaughs before they start looking dried out.
I had them squeak on one hunt. I believe its from the tongue area myself not the soul. It was raining and they were dirty and wet. Came back to the camp and cleaned them off really good dried them and applied another coating of obenaughs LP and no more squeak ever since. It drove me nuts but I think it sounded ALOT louder then it was. My wife couldnt hear them squeaking when she was 20' away.
Anyways I'd highly recommend getting these especially if you can get them under $200.00. Heck if I saw a pair at $150.00 I'd buy them for a second pair of boots. They are truly more comfy then slippers.
