How long did it take to get those pictures, or where you lucky enough to see them while walking around?

Very nice pics! I'm just learning how to use my DSLR and would love to know the settings you used for these pics?

Thanks!

The chickadee and hummingbird are off my front deck.  The ducks are from the Montlake Fill near UW.  Hummingbirds are fairly easy if you exploit their weakness..... sugar water.  It was about 20 degrees out that morning and she was hungry!  I can feed that female by hand.

I usually shoot in aperture priority mode.  I shoot with a Canon EOS 40D.  I used my Canon EF70-300 f4/5.6 (at 300mm) on the chickadee and hummer.  I rented and used a Canon 300 2.8L with a 2x converter (at 600mm) on the ducks.

Chickadee was 1/125 @ f5.6; hummer 1/250 @ f 5.6; widgeon 1/125 @ f5.6; Woodie 1/100 @ f5.6.  I rent the L glass from Glaziers in Seattle.

I haven't figured out how to comment in between pics yet (any help...?)

I discovered the Junco nest in my backyard while doing some spring cleaning.  I watched them from eggs to when they flew the coup.  I put a small wire cage up around them, and then a plywood cover overhead to keep the neighborhood cats away.  It was interesting to watch the parents, the male was very protective, and would bombard squirrels if they got too close.  Once I discovered the nest, I didn't go near them again, and was able to watch them from a bedroom window (where the pics were taken from)

Although not birds... I have included some more "outdoor" pics.

They didn't leave.  Keep putting out food, once they find it, you'll have Anna's all year.  (Anna's don't migrate like the Rufous do)   You can place some red streamers near your feeders too, that will help attract them.  Once they find a food source, they stay pretty close to it.  I feed mine 1 part sugar, 4 parts water (boiled 3  minutes, then cooled).  Forget that red stuff.

Thats what I was doing as well.  I used to have one regular, and sometimes a few green ones would show up, and he or she would fight them off.  The regular we had was almost pure brown.

The rufous are brown and very aggressive. They leave in the fall.  Keep fresh food out and the Anna's will find it again.  I replace my food every 3-4 days.

When adding images as an attachment, you can't comment between the photos. If you use our gallery, or a photo hosting website, you can put the image in the body of the post and comment between the images.

Beautiful photos Hyde.  What kind of PP software are you using?  I still use the Canon free software, but am going ot put something on my wishlist for Christmas.
