Looking for feedback from Sako 85 rifle owners. Tell me the good and bad about your Sako.

I dont have a model 85 but I do shoot a Sako TRGS and I love it. Only Sako (Sock-Oh) that I own, but I love it. I've NEVER had a problem with it and it was dead on out of the box.

A friend of mine bought an A7 last year.  After just a few months he shot if prone with a Harris bipod attached.  The stock broke right at the front sling swivel where the bipod attached. He contacted Beretta and they told him tough luck: the gun is not designed to be fired off a bipod.  They offered to sell him a new stock for $675.  Isn't that generous?  He's shopped all the aftermarket stock makers but no one (other than some custom makes like Lone Wolf) makes one. So now he's stuck with an action, barrel, and broken stock.  

I can assure you that he would tell that you can go wrong with a Sako!  I can also assure you he will never pay any money for a Sako gun again.  

I asked a couple gun salespeople if his experience was unusual.  To a person they said no: Beretta service is some of the worst in the industry right now.

I bought a used one that a dealer friend of mine bought for himself. it shot about 1.75-2 moa and I wanted to hold sako to the guarentee. I called them, explained to them my situation and desires. they had me send it in to the service center. the gun was made to shoot 1.5moa and I was billed a bit over $100 to get my rifle back. I was so pissed that I told them to keep it and sell it. sako reduced the fee a bit and after I cooled off.....6 weeks later, I paid them. I sold that gun after shooting 12 rounds through it and thankfully found someone who wanted to build on an action.

NEVER expect sako to stand behind a rifle that is not sold to the original purchaser, over 2 years old or been touche by a srewdriver. also, do not expect the to be up front with you. I had nearly 200bux into getting it shopped 2 ways and the bore lapped. I ould have never sent my rifle to them for a fee, I live between the biesens and shwan carlock.......arguably some of the best smiths alive.

I have a sako 85 stainless finnlight in 300 winchester magnum, my dream gun and my groups are very unreliable, going to get the recoil lug and action bedded and hopefully it will help.

bod, if it is elidgible for factory service do not even touch it before they try. if not......have a peek at the bore, mine was junk and it was very obvious via borescope.

I own a Sako 75 Finlight in 300 win mag, it is a tack driver. Most accurate rifle out of the box I have ever shot.

sakos are great gun. I have one in 300win mag that is my go to gun. It has hunted on several diffrent continents. Been handed down to me from my father. And never let me down! it is a tack driver as well.

High Country - Thanks for sharing your story.  All of us can learn a lesson from this regarding careful inspection of a rifle prior to purchasing it, including using a bore light.  I have seen a couple of post regarding stock failure on the synthetics when using a bipod.  I won't be putting one on my Sako 75.  

As for the .338 model 75, it is a fantastic rifle and shoots sub moa groups with some factory ammo.  I bought mine secondhand as well.  I don't know if the quality of the 85's has dropped off from when they were manufacturing the 75's, but the 75 is tight, smooth, and well fitted.  I did have to sand out a small part of the synthetic stock where it contacted the barrel.  I find that is fairly common among owners of free floated barrels and synthetic stocks.

unfortunately love all guns and it is a threat to my marriage my wife tells me. I'm doing good though. New years resolution not to buy any guns in 2010 is still holding........ just barely.

I fell in love with my Finlight several years ago after fondling one at Kesselrings gun shop. I knew I had to have it after handling it, that rifle has been my primary hunting rifle for the last six years now.  All of the others just sit in the safe during deer and elk season now.  The stainless fluted barrel is an absolute joy to carry but its picked up some slight rusty blemishes after a couple of tough backpacking hunts in nasty weather.  But I think I'm going to have all of the metal Ceracoated or Duracoated flat matte black and then its back to beating the brush with it.  Functionally its always been flawless for me, aesthetically its pleasing to the eye, and after walking for several miles the light weight is a blessing. 

I would recommend it to anybody...
