Sure, I could do it in my 270 or my 30-06. Not a problem! But in the 30-06 I do prefer 4350.

David, you'll get a more complete answers if you list the cartridge you're loading for. I suggest to everyone, buy the reloading manual for the bullets you're loading. (I know there are web sites/info from the powder manufactures, but you'll get precise information from the bullet manufactures that tested loads with given powders with their particular bullet.)

Depending on the cartridge, you could probably work up a load with that bullet with either IMR or H 4831. Would it be optimal? Maybe, maybe not. You might do better with 4064 or 4350 depending on what cartridge you're loading.

Do you already have the IMR 4831? If not, a faster powder works better in the 30-06, especially with lighter bullets like the 150's. I'd go with either H4350 or H414. H4895 will also work well if you have some on hand.

Max loads can be done in the 30-06 with standard primers. Max loads with 4831 may or may not be the most accurate. Only your gun can tell you that. I am sure you will find a max or near max load in either 4831 or 4350 that shoots well. I use 58 grains of IMR 4350 and 165 grain slugs in my rifle. Have fun.

As you'll see from the link Slenk posted, IMR 4831 isn't even listed for the 30-06 with 150 grain bullets.

Yes you can use it. It must might not provide the highest velocities that would be possible with other powders. But it will still be fine. You could use the data listed for 4831 with 165 grain bullets.

I'm at 56.5g IMR 4350 in my -06 with 165 gr bullets, nice tight groups in all three rifles I have tried them in.  Tried 4831 but my guns didn't like it as well.
