For me, I do it anytime of the day. I think it just depends if the coyotes are interested in a meal, a fight or some lovin'.

What area are you in? What kind of call, electronic or mouth?

I find in the AM works best, ad when the sun starts to rise, and the shadows are still in the valleys I will work those until the sun has fully penetrated there as well. Around 3 PM I usually notice more acitivty to pick up, but then again sometimes I have that 12 Oclock high noon yote show up
Dont overwork the same area, or youll make some wise yotes

With all the snow on the ground, at least up here, they are gonna be a little more hungry. They are always on the move though. Like it was already said, don't over call an area they get smart fast.

Ya i know they are hungry now. We got about 2 or 3 in. What call works best? Fawn in distress, then maybe howls,?? What have you had success with? I have been once and we got a couple close then they dashed, but never got one to shoot at. Do i stay at one spot 20 then if i dont hear anything switch?

If ur in a deer heavy area, try using a deer in distress call, and rattle the fence. It worked for me once

I seem to have better luck hearing them in the evening times, howls, barks, etc. But early AM is when I have called most of mine in, like right after 1st light. But I have stumbled and called in a couple around 11am/noon as well on the eastside. I have a Primos Powerdogg and I have good luck with the Jack Distress and the last one I called in last time out a couple months ago was on the Cottontail Distress. I think I may have over worked the area, I shot 3 or 4 out there with Jack Distress and then last time sat there for almost 45min and nothing came out - switched to cottontail and one came in within 5-10 minutes at most. Also, I've watched one look up and ignore the PowerDogg calls (pup yips & Jack) and then the same dog come a running on a bee-line after one blow of the rabbit distress on the green mouthpeice of my Lil Dog. So for whatever its worth.... Good luck man!

Got back from the first calling session and nothin. Parked and walked 2 miles in set up 30 yards away from the call and sat for about 35 min. My buddy thought he heard a bark, but only once. Moved spots and called for 15 min didnt hear or see anything. Then followed fresh tracks in the snow for about a mile just for fun. it was in the middle of the day, and we heard shots (like target practice in the distance_) so that could have done it. Seen 20 does though.

Called in more multi-dog packs right at first light than any other time. The rest of the day seems like I always get singles called in. I'd strongly listen to earlier advice about over-working an area. I'll only call a spot once per year, or MAYBE twice if the first time was like early in the season. Don't rule out spot and stalk hunting. Some dogs are just too smart and have been properly edumacated already. We kill a LOT of dogs by driving and spotting then parking where they can't see us and putting a stalk on. Sometimes these end with calling em in, sometimes we can just get in range and put the .32 gr .204 in the fur. ...but heck, with a gun that's spot accurate to 600 yards, I don't have to a whole lot on the stalk part
