1st year deer archery, 1st archery blacktail
« on: November 29, 2010, 10:50:44 AM »
Got this guy at 1 pm Saturday after about 30 40 minutes in the timber. I kept working a switchback pattern through it. He was at 20 yards behind some thick bare fir branches. I knew I wouldn't get a better shot as he knew something was there so punched it through. Shot hit the only spot I had in front of the left shoulder. Arrow went through and busted his right shoulder in 3 pieces. He dropped and I quickly moved around to my left for a clear shot as he was trying to rise and put one right behind the right shoulder. He lay there and I put one more through the heart to finish it. Pretty easy drag out to a spur road, about 200 yards. Then was able to get the truck within another couple hundred yards. He's a big old deer for just a forky but the spread is 16 1/8. Rutting hard, stinky, swollen neck and almost 0 fat. Pics aren't great as I think my phone lens was a little fogged. Better ones later when I download the camera.
