Once again, I have been promoting FOB's for 2 years. I shoot nothing but them. Before FOB's I spent many hours practicing with field points and then switching to broadheads only to have to re-tune my bow.

With the FOB's I change to broadheads and shoot the same point of impact as the field tip. I will never fletch again.

I work closely with Paul at Starrflight and have FOBS that you can use as a sample. I must talk to all users to insure that they understand the equipment requirements.
You must have a dropdown/fallaway rest fr one, you must shoot a "D"loop for two and the clearance tool that comes with the FOBs must clear all rest, sights, etc. for the length of the arrow.

I have an extra drop zone rest for testing and am willing to help you get started if you want to try them

Great Job KillBilly!  If I can ever be of any help, just let me know.  I told Paul I would be happy to continue to spread the word as well.
Going to talk him into getting on here if he can and tell us his story.  It is pretty interesting.  Beinga Mechanical Engineer (Now Electrical Engineer) I find it pretty cool how the whole thing came about.

I am a lifer now.  Need to get some more and some more arrows so I can use them for demos.  Guys at work need a little more convincing that they really do work and work very well!

I was at Kenmore last weekend and saw someone using them. I talked with the guy and he loved them. Has anybody shot them with a broadhead yet? What did you exp?

I shot them with 125 Slick Trick Mags and they were fine to 25/30 yards. From 30 to 60 yards I was not impressed.

Paul has promised he would join this site if he ever found time. He spends hours on the phone. You can verify that because you know how much he talks.

Several times I almost spent the money to be a distributor but haven't done it yet. Paul told me outright that if someone calls and says they are from Wash. that he isn't going to steer them to me once he has got the guy on the phone. I can understand that. It would be completely up to me to promote my business. Since I don't want a business and only to share good things and help others I guess I won't do it. I do however always keep a couple dozen extra FOBs for samples.

Yes he and his friends are aerospace engineers and developed an airfoil that almost immediately stabilizes an arrow upon launch. the 4 degree blades spin the FOB independently of the shaft or broadhead. If the fob won't turn with slight pressure, your knocks are too tight and the turning FOB will break itself when striking something solid. The FOB is low profile and crosswinds affect them very little. Although they are made to go on an arrow, remember...they are an airfoil and airfoils are designed to fly.  I better shut up.... :IBCOOL:

I do have a fall away rest and a D loop. Right now I shoot carbon express arrows with 100 grain field tips and G5 broadheads. So how much do these change the wait of your arrow?

Right now I have my bow sighted in for broadheads, because now matter how well it is tuned at 60 yards my broadheads fly righ of what my field point does, so I manually moved my site to correct it.

Are you saying that if the bow is sighted in properly and using FOBS it will not be necessary to adjust between field points and broadheads?

Also, will these slow down the arrow flght because of wait or is the weight similar to vanes? I currently I shot 4 vanes.

Are there any other modifcations necessary?

Yes I am saying that the results I got usinf FOBs alleviates the need to reset/retune your sights when switching from field tips to broadheads. There are some possible small to be made but it would be minimal adjustments. Like leveling the arrow, raising or lowering the rest, correct left/right adjustment, just basic Pro Shop tweaking and I have the tools to check it out.

As KillBilly said, they should not need any major changes from feild to broadhead.  Mine hit exactly the same regardless of which one I shoot.

Unfortunately, they do not work for Aluminum that I can see.

Do they pass through like viens do, or do they hang up on the hide or break or what?  Obviously I couldn't or wouldn't shoot them with the trad bow, but my compound has the same issues as everyone else.  I can't go back and forth from filed tips to broadheads.....

They will pop off the back of the arrow. They market that as a spot marker and knowing if you hit your animal. Typically the switching back and forth is a tuning issue and it is something that I haven't figured out yet.

Its funny, for the most part, its an up and down issue for me, so My 30 yard pin for pracitce is now my 20 yard pin for shooting broadheads....on down the line.  Same weight on the tips. (125)

Howdy All!

I herd there was some FOB talk here so I thought I would join in if that is OK?

I promise NEVER to try and sell anything.  Just answer question and be of any help I can.

I am crazy busy so I may not be able to respond as soon as I would like sometimes.  I will do my best.  I have always liked to keep things on the open forum as much as possible.  Please try not to send pm's if it can be said open format.

I find the keeping things out in the open (both good and bad) is best.  Lots of folks will get the information that way.

Just a few words about me...

my background is Mechanical Engineering. I had spent the better part of 12 years working at a rocket ranch (Hughes Missile Systems).  I am also lucky enough to say I have not missed an archery Elk hunt in 28 years. I am even luckier to say it has been with the same group of friends.  My thoughts regarding bodies in motion come from crunching the numbers.  My thoughts regarding arrow flight comes from hunting and the frustration of getting a broadhead to fly.

Best regards,
Paul
StarrFlight
