Missed Opportunity!
« on: December 02, 2010, 09:21:40 PM »
I have been waiting 3 years for this guy to come in during legal shooting hours. Well he finally comes in tonight right before dark and I blew the shot. :bash: I put some corn out for my 20yd marker and all the deer were hitting that so I already had 20yds in my head all day long. When he comes in he goes straight to the hay which is a little farther back. It didn't even cross my mind at the time to adjust. I guess I was just to pumped to see him actually come in. On top of all that I always aim for a heart shot that way if they jump the string I will catch both lungs. I pull back settle the pin and release. The arrow flies right underneath him.  :bash: At least it was a clean miss. Hopefully I didn't spook him to bad. He took off along with some does but two of them just picked there heads up for a little bit then went right back to eating.
I just hope I didn't educate him for the rest of the year and hopefully he will give me the chance to redeem myself.

Same thing  happened to me on Tuesday almost to the tee.  It sucks.  My buck is still coming in but I think he might be permanently nocturnal.  I felt like quite the dumb@$$.  :bash: :bash: :bash: Good luck!

I missed over the top of an elk this year.  Easy shot and I just hurried because all of her buddies were walking off and I just knew that it was leaving in just a second.  Can't believe that I did that - windage was great and I just blew the yardage.  I also felt some sense of relief that it was a clean miss.

It's no consolation but I guess that's part of bowhunting.  I feel for you, man.
